  1. Thanks for having a look at it. I guess I'll just have to be patient then
  2. I've just auto updated to 10.29, and it's still taking the same time.
  3. Glad to hear it's in the Backlog As for the setup, we're talking about 620Gb of data split into about 8000 files and 3000 Folders Network is Gigabit but the actual average transfer rate is only 40MB/s (yes, Bytes and not Bits) I did a quick test in C++ and recursively 'walking' through the folder takes about 5 seconds in release.
  4. Thanks for the quick answer My rom filter is already minimalist. I only have *.cue in it So I guess I can't do much about it right now. Just curious, what purpose is this design filling ? Is that something that could change in the future during a refactoring ? From a 'simple user' point of view, it look like a bug (stressing the harddrive when there's no need to)
  5. Hi there I've got an issue when launching PSX game. Games are stored in the .cue/bin format and I've got one folder for every one of them. So the Sub-Folder option is actually used. The gamelist shows up very quickly, but when I want to run a game, gameex freezes (not even a please wait) about 15 seconds, and then launches the game. I monitored the GameEx process using ProcMon, and I discovered that during that time, GameEx was reparsing the psx root directory, trying to find the .cue I wanted to load in every single folder. Since everything is networked, it does take that long to complete Now, I wonder why GameEx needs to go through the whole folders when I am in the launch game screen. GameEx should already know where the cue file is. Did anybody get the same issue ?
  6. Hi there I've done some speed tests on my setup using RAM Drives on 2 machines (2 Vista ) and I was able to transfer at about 125 Mb/s (network usage at 100% in the taskmanager, and actual transfer duration confirmed it), but I was never able to reach that speed with 'single' conventional harddrive. So in my case, the drive speed is the bottleneck. What usb drives were you using to be faster than a Gigabit network ? were you RAIDing your drives ?
  7. thanks for the clarification and the workaround. Isn't there a way to get a callback/notification from Windows when a new controller hardware is detected ?
  8. Mame was a official 64bits 0.132 Strangely, I can't reproduce the bug anymore. I just updated to GameEx 10.14 and everything is fine now.
  9. Hi Not related to the OP issue, but I have another issue related to ROM numbers. If I go to the 'Emulated Games' and highlight the 'All Games' item, the number of games displayed at the bottom is stuck to 9999. Is this some kind of reference to Final Fantasy or is it an actual bug ? Then if I highlight Mame, no number is displayed at all, but if I select another emu, it's ok.
  10. Thanks for the clarification. Is this technically doable and could be considered as a valid feature request ? The Gamepad is a wireless Xbox 360 controller, and you need to press the central button on the pad to make it appear in the Gamepad list.
  11. Hi So basically, if I start GameEX, and then plug the gamepad, it's not usable to navigate through gamex interface. (but if for some reasons GameEx loses focus and regain it, the pad starts working) feature, bug, known limitation ?
  12. Ok, I re-did a fresh clean install of GameEx 10.7, and everything is displaying correctly now. Sorry for the false alarm ...
  13. that's strange, because I could watch the Snap videos using Zoomplayer, which is a directshow player, and it worked without installing anything. (was using EVR for the renderer) I just wanted to avoid installing codec packs
  14. I just got that issue, and I think it's because I was running GameEx without using the installer. (I just copied the gameex folder from another PC and put it in d:\gameEx) When the autoupdate kicked in, it created to registry entries, and one of them was an installpath to C:\Program Files that I wasn't using. So when the update finished, my GameEx was restarted from the old location, which of course wasn't updated and it notified me an updated was available, and so on.
  15. Hi I recently installed the official Windows Seven RC and I'm running GameEx on it. Everything is working well so far, except maybe video related stuff. As for video, Windows seven is moving from DirectShow to Media Foundation, and supports several formats out of the box. So, I didn't install any Codec Pack (so no FFDSHow) and I can watch the video snaps using WMP without installing anything. But inside GameEx, the video snaps aren't showing (and video preview neither on the htpc side) Does GameEx really requires ffdshow or some similar codec pack to display anyhting ? Am I missing something ?
  16. just to make it clear, you'll still need to buy the USB receiver http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox3...gamingreceiver/ And maybe the USB charger pack (so you won't need batteries anymore) After that, just have fun
  17. I'm using a wireless Xbox360 controller, and it's working flawlessly. (tested on Vista only) I haven't tested with more than one though ... I wanted to go the PS3 route, but Sony didn't make official windows drivers, and the unofficial ones didn't work on a 64bits vista last time I tried.
  18. Hi not sure it's the right place to post that, but I got some error in the gamedb on PC Engine. The game was Benkei Gaiden, but in the DB (or at least the .mdb file), the game name is Ninja Gaiden, which is irrelevant. Next, it's about altered beast on NES. Right now, it does exist, but under the name atari bros, wich is in fact a MarioBros hack. The real NES 'altered beast' was in fact released only in Japan under the name Juuouki. Finaly, just out of curiosity, I was wondering why there was one .mdb file per system. It seemed more natural to have everything in the same DB to allow easy search between system. Are those mdb files generated from a master DB ? They look more like an excel sheet than a relational database.
  19. As for wireless controllers, I'm using the official wireless XBox360 controller, and it's been working perfectly so far.
  20. In fact I don't use all those emu on the same cab at the same time. Arcade Cab should be mame only (not done yet) Console Cab (HTPC) plugged to the TV (Snes, PSX, etc) Computer Cab (Workstation) for things like dosbox and winuae I tried playing 'mouse' dos games from the couch, but it doesn't feel right Are you guys putting everything in the same cab ?
  21. in fact I would avoid XP 64Bits It doesn't have a lot of support from Microsoft or hardware manufacturers (read no drivers ) Vista 64 Bits, on the other hand is well supported. Actually I'm running GameEx on a Vista 64Bits ultimate, and everything is working well, except 16 Bits apps of course Vista 32 and 64 cost almost the same price, and you've already got 8Gb of memory, so go for 64 Bits. Now, the real question would be Vista now or wait for Windows Seven
  22. Thanks for the suggestions ! Of course I'd prefer to leave GameEx official DB untouched and benefit from automatic updates, but it seems I won't have choice I'll have to go with my own custom DB for Redump PSX list and manualy merge changes from the dat file and GameEX DB. Does anybody know if there are plans to support Redump names, since I don't see NoIntro making a PSX set ?
  23. Damned, and I thought I did my homework. I was about the push the investigation further with ProcMon but it seems you already did that As a 'user' I obviously consider that as a bug I removed the show last games played and it worked thanks for the tip. Now I need to figure out the naming problem ...
  24. thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at that. I did a mistake in my previous post, the message wasn't 'Updating List', but only a 'Please Wait' I check what happened in the log file, and when I select my PSX emu, the last line in the log file states 15:25:27.1 3/22/2009: Restoring Emulator Database From Cache Then, nothing during 3 minutes. Looks like it's a cache issue. I destroyed the cache, and tried again. It's almost the same time to get access to the game list (and regenerate the cache), so I would say the cache isn't super effective Could that be related to the 'scan subfolder' option ? Bug or feature ? I have some other folder containing 3000+ files and the loading is instantaneous (but no subfolders scan activated) Any way to activate more logs to see exactly what's taking time ?
  25. Hi there I've been doing some test with psx dats from redump and hit some issues. Redump focuses on exact dump (their dumping guide is quite complex) so I wanted to check my rips against their dat file. I want to store my PSX games in a different folder for each game, so my PSX roms root only contains subfolders. So, to test the 'worst case' scenario, I downloaded the full '.cue' pack from redump (containing only cue files), and created a folder for everyone of them. (about 2400 folders) To make that work in gameex, I activated 'sub folders', and put a filter on *.cue. That worked well, but it's extremely slow. GameEx takes forever to 'Update List', it's not possible to interupt it, and Alt+Tabbibg doesn't work well. Once the list is updated, I can select a game, play it, but everytime I return to the main list (with back button), it updates the list again. Is there a way to speedup things, have them cached or even disable the scan ? Next issue is about naming conventions. I'd like to use redump names, but they aren't in GameEx database, so I don't see game info in GameEx Just to make a test, I edited the PSX DB to replace one of the goodname with one from redump, and GameEx was fooled. I was able to display the game resume correctly. So, would it be possible to add a Redump column in GameEX database or is it out of scope ?
