its a crappy built in something or another.. sis i think. i've allocated 64mb of system mem to it in the bios. i've already tried diff rez and for gameex not to change rez dont have any other gfx card to use .. this gfx is fine for mame and thats all i need it for. advanced gfx? i'll try 16bit but i think i had it on 16bit when i first installed it.

Just installed GameEx 5.55 on my new arcade cabinet box and cannot seem to get it to run. decription of problem (cant get the log files as i am at work) open application sit there for a couple mins until the splash screen goes away hear the first half second of the start up music. crashes out to the gameex debug log the debug log complains at the end about direct x errors for some reason. looks to be gfx related. running dxdiag i am running 9.0c and all the test run fine. any ideas? (i'll try to post the actual log soon but its not actually on the network yet so cant access it at the moment) a

also dont think so since i have reinstalled it from fresh (it keeps settings in file not registry) so unless its a setting that is now a default setting while it wasnt before i doubt its a setting related issue.

not really, no. i installed latest .net beta and still didnt work, also uninstalled it and it still didnt work even though it should work without new .net.

i get the same error. posted a thread about it here http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=635 let us know if any of the solutions help. i have had to use the old dll's from version 4.x for it to work

hmmmm been mixing and matching. (i've deffo used newer version than that and it worked) and it seems to work with the latest version using the dll's in your zip file. is there anything that wont work properly (whats mng videos anyway?)

same thing. :( looks like its my machine playing silly buggers. maybe a reinstall is an option. i've just installed it on a mates 2003 sp1 server and it works ok (well gets further) but bombs out trying to accesss a bmp when it should be a png.

still no dice. dont have the folder with the version number in there any more either. if it makes any differnce the (same) error comes up a lot quicker now than when it did with .net2 installed.

it worked on older versions, and i dont know what version of .net i was using then i only installed .net2beta2 after you suggested to. it allowed to install without whinging about it being installed already so one would assume that it wasnt installed already. i'm in the process of reinstalling it. but i'll uninstall and reboot if it doesnt work still.

not sure if i was using 2 before or not. but before v5.x it worked after 5.x doesnt 5.x with .net 2 beta2 as per above links = no 5.x with .net 2 beta2 as per above removed (presume using 1.1) = no looks like it may well be something other than .net then

yes i think that is what i was asking. So GameEX actually changes the rez itself then. Great. So even if you select the 640x480 or 800x600 themes they will not change the rez (by default? Is there a flag in the theme.ini file to use to do this then?

i installed the very same distro of .net yesterday as per Tom's advice but it didnt do jack diddly squat for my system

I notice theres options in the options and also the themes for different screen rez's. Does changing those actually change the screen resolution when running the app? My TV is widescreen and would like to use a widescreen res but my gfx card is a bit tempormental at keeping to that set ratio within the card/windows screen rez. So would be a big benefit if GameEx actually changed the systems rez if requested to.

dont put yourself down. you are a programming god in my eyes simple mistakes like that can easily happen.

still no luck opening the file up in depends.exe shows a hella lot of associations. one thing i noticed is that i dont have msjava.dll installed. but that shouldnt be a problem should it? you havent just randomly changed the language you have written it in to java have you? how about posting the dll's from pre v5 (and maybe the exe) to see if i can get them working.
