  1. Thanks for the answer anyways
  2. Wow, the forum search tool did turn up my question almost exactly, but on the 13th(!) page of the search "animated logos". Hopefully this'll bump it. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=8635&st=0&p=63217&hl=animated%20logos&fromsearch=1entry63217
  3. I have a bunch of external applications(mainly PC games) loaded up as custom menu items. What I would like to do is have a preview video play when highlighted in much the same way as you can set up when browsing the MAME game list. I have a few FRAPS snaps ready. Is this possible or am I in the wrong here? Also, apologies if this is a dupe. I couldn't find an answer after several searches via both Google and the forum search, but then again, I wasn't quite sure what to search for.

    Video Bug

Thanks, I'll remember that for next time;) Though I must say that this and the Mame32 exe it downloaded causing illegal operations(I think the download just got cut short by the wifi, downloading it manually fixed it right up) are the only problems I've run across. I don't think I've had that easy a time setting up an HTPC before(having tried Meedio, MyHTPC, MediaPortal, Nero Home and MS MCE).

    Video Bug

I found out what it is. The video was set the "preview" and I guess(at least for the NextGen animated theme) that means you hear the entire audio track of the first highlighted video(and no video thumbnail). So maybe this is a bug? I turned preview off and it works great now:)

    Video Bug

Turns out it gets even stranger. It plays the first file in the folder as the phantom noise then proceeds to play the selected file visibly. When you exit out of Gamex, it stops the selected file, but the phantom first-file-in-folder keeps playing under the Gamex.exe process(until you task mangle it out of there)

    Video Bug

Sorry about the topic description: it turns out the network had nothing to do with it as I originally thought. Locally stored video behaves the same way. I just don't know how to edit the topic description(if even possible).

    Video Bug

Not sure if this has been brought up before(a search pulled nothing in any case, sorry if I missed it), but there appears I ran into a glitch playing video. I essentially get the video working fine, but then I hear two versions of the audio(like one person singing 2 secs behind another person). Even if I quit the video, I still hear the echoed audio(except now I hear it behind the ambient sound file). I have to bring up task manager and kill the GamEx.exe process even though I've exited Gamex normally to stop the sound from the phantom twin video. Running XP on both machines, they share a common workgroup, and are communicating via wifi. One video was in standard divx, another using a matroska container and vobsub to subtitle an xvid encoded file. Both of these behaved identically. Using registered version. system specs: 2400+ AMD CPU, cheap cbit board onboard sound Asus A9250 Radeon card with updated catalyst drivers XP Pro SP2 802.11G DLink wireless card I should also note Media Player plays everything fine. The problem seems isolated to Gamex. It seems to dual-launch the video file. One you see and one you don't and just stays in memory(and audio). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I was thinking maybe a per-system info page or file that would load up when you choose a game(it could be merged with or be confined to a corner of the current game info screen) that would allow you to provide a graphic showing the joystick-gamepad mappings or any other system-specific(as opposed to game specific) information(think of those old PS1 and PS2 demo discs except instead of game specific it would be specific to the system as a whole to show the mapping). Another(which I'm not sure has been suggested before) is random ambient music from a playlist file.

  12. Probably more then I. Perhaps I was just too caught up in the informality of the options as they were. And though it makes perfect sense in retrospect, at first go it appeared shifty. I truly think it would be more proper to put a paragraph akin to what you've posted on the main page somewhere near the donation button. Again, it was more of a pet peeve I was concerned(probably illogically) could turn a very few viewers away to other places.
  13. I already am
  14. How about an option for jumping to a letter via joypad?(like having the letters listed from # to Z in a row that you can select from). The fact that you can jump to a letter via keystroke is very good in its own right, however this may be useful for those setting up a console-like PC in the den that can completely be navigated using a joypad(seeing as the rest of the interface can do this already and quite well).
  15. After having it explained by jthompson, I can see the sense of it. Though perhaps that blip(heck, even quote it) in the FAQ may put some people at ease. I was concerned because I have seen many software producers using tricks based on exploiting free software tactics to do all sorts of nasties to people. And though I'll admit to being somewhat odd, I was afraid more people would feel likewise and cause more people to seek alternatives. I admit I am quite new here. And I appreciate jthompson for answering me honestly. I was sharing a concern I had on a public forum. Your points make sense to me. I also went through great pains to make my wording as such as to convey that I am not trying to be a troll or insult anyone-anything. This was feedback as a new user and I carefully used the word 'perceived' in my message. Mr. Hoffman, I apologize if I've 'offended' you in any way. I figured this was the place to leave such feedback and get some in return. Apparently you feel otherwise so strong as to both refer to me in the third person and claim I'm here to harm you all. If such is the way everyone feels, I'll refrain from posting again. I wouldn't want to offend anyone else and such was never my intent. However, in my experience, each forum has at least one person like you[Hoffman] who, though loyal and probably very helpful, are quick to judge and touchy to discuss with. So I won't base my judgment on your post alone.
  16. I would like to start by saying that I am in no way putting down the Gamex software or its developer. I also would like to say that I am just a week or so away from purchasing a license for Gamex if all things go as planned. I also am in no way opposed to the developer of Gamex to make money on what is obviously a difficult to pull off piece of software with good demand and little competition and do not believe 25$ is too much to buy Gamex. I just wish to give my personal opinion that I do not feel the word "donation" is best applied here. Gamex appears to share all things in common with the age old Shareware software model. Donationware would be something along the lines of Mediaportal, where the software is given, but donations appreciated. Gamex is free with limits, and fully functional for a cost on a per license basis. That is not a donation, that is a cost or purchase. By asking for donations without the extras does still not donationware make. To be truthful, it was this perceived somewhat dishonest approach to marketing the software that led to by initial reluctance to buy the program. It seemed a bit shady to me. It is for this reason that I am bringing it forward. This could potentially be felt by others. And again, I don't think "freeware version, commercial version" sounds that bad. Again, I don't wish to insult the program nor Tom. The program is awesome and totally worth the money. It's more the wording around the purchasing that irks me. Maybe I'm just too uptight.
