I had GameEX running on my 7" EEEPC. It ran well enough, I didn't take any pictures though. The button layout on your sony looks superb for gaming! My EEEPC just had a regular keyboard/touchpad, I had to use a USB Xbox360 controller.

When i first registered GameEX i used it exclusively on my HTPC running Windows MCE2k5 I have the Gyration Mouse and Keyboard (Kinda expensive, about 70-100$ for the set) but the range is AMAZINg and the gyroscopic feature works really well, the only issue is make sure you set the mouse down upside-down when not in use or else the battery will discharge in 5 minutes. GameEX works AMAZINGLY under MCE. I also used Pinnacle Gameprofiler, which unfortunately costs 20$. I'm sure you could just edit the advanced controls under GameEX to get navigation working anyways. (The only reason i used pinnacle game profiler was because I also had PC games which i mapped to my Xbox360 Wireless controllers)

you should put your latest nullDC findings in your sig line (Like the link you just gave me) I literally read the link, slapped my forehead, made the changes, and in about 40 seconds It was up and running perfectly.

much appreciated, sorry for the headache of redundancy I tried to use the search function I swear (I am an administrator of a huge airsoft forum so I know how annoying it can be) My apologies, and thanks for all the help.

The Map Keys option was already enabled, do i have to configure which Keys it sends? When I press ESCAPE the screen displaying the game dissapears while the audio still plays, but the nullDC application is still in the task bar, along with gameEX. Also: I am using the Loader for nullDC 1.5 to launch the emnulator here is my key layout:
-
Just tried it outside oif GameEX and the issue is NOT present. I searched the forum and did not find any entry for "Map Keys" is this a setting in GameEX or NullDC? my hardware is: AMD Athlon64 3000+ 1GB DDR 3200mhz 250GB HDD SATA Nvidia 6200 128MB iPac controller board wired in a X-menvs Street fighter cabinet

I got the Dreamcast emu NullDC 1.6 working under GameEX almost perfectly. (Besides not being able to exit) Here is my issue, when playing Marvel vs Capcom (Or any game that requires 3 punch buttons to be pressed for the super moves) they don't register, AND if i press a buncha of keys the character starts running on auto pilot for a while. It ONLY happens under NullDC so perhaps it is just an issue with the joystick plugin emulation?

GameEX is by far one of the best pieces of software I've come across in a long time. It is well worth the 25$. It works wonders when integrating in a HTPC or a Mame Cabinet. I use an iPac and I absolutely love the integration GameEX gives me for my cabinet.

Just started happening, today I loaded up Guardians / Denjin Makai II MAME Rom and played for a bit, then I pressed Escape to exit, and when GameEX came back up, i couldn't control any of the menu items. which is weird because if i pressed ESCAPE again, it would exit gameEX as if the inputs were working fine. (I'm using iPac controller board in MAME Cabinet.) any ideas? I tried searching the forum but I wasn't sure what to search for.

same issue here.

You are my hero. Thanks so much. I guess that's what is meant by "Shift" function, thanks for specifying that the 1P input.
-
Perfect, I had No idea. You sir deserve a cookie. Thanks for the other tips as well some really good ideas (Pause button especially) Q for Shaunopp: How did you wire your inputs? Did you hack a keyboard or use an interface controller board like an iPac? I want to do something similar to yours but am worried that I will be limited by my iPac board. Maybe you can give me a clue on how I could set this up? Here is a shoddy image of what I want to do (for visual reference)
-
I Have an i-Pac I to control the joysticks. But That still doesn't address my concern for control options. Should I just Install a button maybe up on the top of the cab to Exit the current game? I was just looking for ideas what other users have done. In my MAME research online nobody really goes over how they navigate their systems (generally they just recommend a front end), mostly I assume because many mention installing a keyboard tray which they most likely use for navigation? and a keyboard, is what I am trying to avoid.

I got an Xmen vs Street Fighter Cabinet last week. I Gutted most of it, and have the following hardware Installed: AMD Athlon64 3000+ 1GB DDR 3200Mhz RAM 250GB SATA HDD Nvidia Geforce6200 LE 64/128MB Windows XP Pro SP3 GameEX (Latest) Registered I was wondering who else has used GameEX for MAME Cabinets? What methods/Controller schemes are you using for navigating the GameEX Interface? (For example to Exit back to GameEX from a ROM) When I originally donated I was using it on my HTPC, and I had it implemented well on there for a while. (I was using XBOX360 Wireless controllers) The Joystick Layout now is a regular 6 button/1stick x2 configuration found with most Street Fighter Cabinets, plus 1p and 2P buttons. I have 2 other Yellow Buttons to Insert Coins for 1P/2P Any tips on what has worked well for you, The space on the joystick-area is limited so I wanted to avoid installing more buttons. EDIT: This just came to mind, Perhaps map ESCAPE to a button combination that requires input from both 1p/2p sides in order to exit the loaded ROM?

News: Why GameEx is the best gaming front end on the planet?
xpoisonfreex replied to Tom Speirs's topic in General
HA thanks so much, I already purchased a License a few weeks ago, so maybe someone else should receive it, but If i do get it I am sure I have a friend that would love to use the software. I Honestly just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the work you've put into the software. HAHA EW. -
News: Why GameEx is the best gaming front end on the planet?
xpoisonfreex replied to Tom Speirs's topic in General
Well here is why I think GameEX is such an amazing software package. I have been in the IT/PC tech field for about 12 years, I am pretty young (late 20's) but have seen OS's Applications, and Ideas come and go. Even when I was 15 and working at a local ISP I realised how horribly programmed most software was. It basically never did what it was intended to do, and if it did, it was a huge headache getting it to work. not to mention the fact that it was always expensive, and was lacking tons of basic, or needed features. I have got into the habbit of "Trying" software, only to erase it off my HDD, feeling relief that I didn't pay for it, yet feeling bad for everyone who had paid for it. ( DOn't condone Piracy, but, I don't blame most pirates! Argggg!) Fast forward to 2007, SOftware still sucks (Except a few open source projects here and there) I wanted to build a Killer HTPC. I wanted the Tivo-ish features, but most of all I wanted an arcade machine built in. As if it weren;t hard enough to get MCE 2005 working properly, getting Emulators to integrate into the interface was all buy impossible. MCE only allows 2 entries for 3rd party applications, pretty much useless. Then I ran across GameEX via Google search at 5am while at work (Network Operations=crazy hours) and needless to say I was blown away. The features set was astounding, almost everything that MCE could do, GameEX could do, with the added Bonus of being able to seemlessly integrate almost every emulator/application, filling the huge gap that MCE left in my HTPC setup. Here are my main reasons for LOVING this software, and appreciating the time that has been put into it: 1) Setup: The Installation was insanely simple, but with all of the options to let us nerds install it with advanced configuration/features. (I appreciate that it doesn't assume we're all idiots, but makes it simple enough so if we were, it'd be no problem) Additionally I love how the installation does not clog my registry with useless garbage, I hate bloated software. Also the integrated download option for emulators, & themes etc is such a simple, & practical idea. It is a shame this idea is never used in other applications. 2)The Support, and website: The ammount of information available is a sharp contrast to most retail applications, I'm not saying that there is not a lot of information available, there is actually more valuable information on these few pages than most retail applications have across the whole internet. This program may not have a huge following or insane multi-website information bank, but It is a testament to the minimal issues that occur when using the software. Take any other program and google it and you will find tens, or even hundreds of forums, and message boards offering help, and documenting complaints, that often take hours to sift through. You have provided a huge ammount of information for users, and if some information is not here, you have provided the tools necesary for us to help eachother. 3)The Features: This is where I was so impressed, and sincerely felt hopeful for the future of software. The options available regarding configuration are laid out extremely well. The program definitely "rivals retail applications" and provides quick access to media, applications, and emulators. It intuitively gives you the ability to incorporate pretty much any Emulator you can imagine by making use of the command line-run (for launching the Emu's) I can't wait for the TV support to be integrated, I would gladly let GameEX take over my HTPC. As it stands now though, I have the most amazing TV in my neighborhood, All of my friends come over to watch the recorded episodes of "Colbert Report" and always get distracted by the ability to play every SNES, NES, Genesis, NeoGeo, and Arcade game all from the couch, using my wireless Xbox360 Controllers. I hope I didn't stroke you off too much haha But honestly, from across the pond I send my sincerest gratitude, this software rules. Take Care! -
Fixed: put all of the Emulaotrs in 1024x768 fullscreen and made the cfg/ini files "Read Only" as suggested in this thread, and vwalla! works! Thanks again.

Any one have an Idea as to this issue: I am getting the Black screen problem usually associated with the "SHow Desktop" option.... but here is the mystery: It happens without GameEX on most EMU's (Only ZSNES is working) I have tried every resolution, every setting, but they will only work outside of Gameex in a tiny window, (and not at all within GameEX) this is confusing me because it is happening in Mugen also, which worked fine last week.

Kudos for the Autohotkey suggestion, GameEX rules the school, It's been forever since I've felt compelled to pay for software (most stuff sucks these days) but this is awesome. The Autokey method to exit EMUs is awesome, it also works with PC games setup under gameEX (My install of Mugen for example) for the lazy, here is my script (I have it so when you press in on the right analog stick it exits back to the gameEX menu) just change the joy# to whatever button you want to use. copy only what is between the --------------- -------------------- Joy10::send {Esc} ; Escape command for Emulators under GameEX #SingleInstance force -------------------- make sure to creat the script, convert it to an EXE, then configure GameEX to launch it at startup by running the Advanced Config tool, click tweaks/performance, then put the EXE in the "Launch at startup Don't Wait" box it works superbly!
