  1. I worked on my system a little this weekend. I followed your guide and signed up with Emumovies and added images of the cartridges and boxes to my consoles. Now it looks really cool when I load a game, and brings back memories of having these games as a kid!! I also ended up buying an empty MERCS cabinet. This will save me time since I won't have to build a cabinet now. If I may suggest adding to the essentials overview section regarding signing up to Emumovies, that after signing up, go into the GameEx set up wizard and add your user name and password for Emumovies on the automatic artwork download screen.
  2. Stryker, all of my MAME games are conventionally named. I did not change any of the game names or 3d cabinet names. I just put the cabinets into the folder I mapped in the set up wizard, unzipped the file, and they worked for me. When I open a folder for a game from the 3d cabinets, I also get images of the marquee, bezel, side-art, and more. I will have to add these to the appropriate folders. The only snaps I needed to rename were from the consoles I downloaded. I looked around in the setup wizard and did not see where to change the settings to enable the best snap feature. This would save time from not having to rename all the file names.
  3. I spent some time working on the artwork and snaps this weekend and this is how it went. I downloaded the MAME screenshots and 3D cabinets from the GameEx download-add on/utilities/media section and put them in the correct folders , that I have mapped and unzipped them. They worked and looked great. I also downloaded the screenshots for my remaining consoles, and placed them in the correct folders. To get these to work, I found I needed to rename the snap to match the rom name exactly. Spelling, capitalization, and numbers/symbols had to match. Then they were recognized by GameEx. It was a productive weekend working on my system and now that I am starting to use more of the many features GameEx offers, my system looks really cool.
  4. That does sound just like what happened to me. When I made the command line correction that Adultery suggested it fixed my black screen situation. Hope it works for you as well.
  5. Stryker, I did not find your guide until after I had my set up completed. I wish I would have!! It is a great document to help out anyone new. My set up that I have now is pretty basic. I have emulators and roms running, and I am now beginning to work on all of the artwork and snaps. I also am going to look at using a rom manager for MAME to help sort that out. I will be following your guide as I move forward and can keep you posted with things I encounter. I might not get a chance to spend time on it until the weekend.
  6. Hello Stryker, I am new to GameEx as well and have been working with it for only a few weeks. Your guide is great. Something I encountered as I was setting up my system was after I downloaded my emulators from the GameEx setup wizard, I expected them to work immediately after installing them. It took me a while to realize that I needed to open each emulator separately and configure them to the graphics and audio of my computer. Just a thought of something to add.
  7. I have one last request please. Can anyone please explain to me where I find the area to edit my thread title to resolved or change it for me. I'm not seeing where to change this. Thank You.
  8. Thank you Adultery for the command line correction, I had entered it wrong, using only d3d. When I corrected this command line I got the same result-no video but had game sounds. Run last game is listed below. Then I tried to use -video ddraw in the command line and this works. Also tried to change it to -video gdi and this works as well. I might try running with the -video gdi for a while, it looks a little better on my system. Wish I could get Direct 3d to work, but I am super excited to have everything working. Thank you everyone for all of your help, I would not have solved this without you!! Time to build a cabinet!! @ECHO OFF C: CD "C:\Emulators\MAME149" mame.exe 1943u -rompath "C:\Emulators\MAME149\Roms" -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -video d3d @ECHO OFF C: CD "C:\Emulators\MAME149" mame.exe altbeast6 -rompath "C:\Emulators\MAME149\Roms" -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -video ddraw
  9. I ran the Run last game and it reads. @ECHO OFF C: CD "C:\Emulators\MAME149" mame.exe 1943u -rompath "C:\Emulators\MAME149\Roms" -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo I also added pause the file to see the command window. It reads: bm.7k not found <no good dump known> <tried in 1943u 1943 1943u> Warning: the game might not run correctly. Press any key to continue... I do not understand what this means.
  10. I tried to force Direct3D with -d3d by adding it to the command line in the GameEx set up wizard. I launched a MAME game and it now shows the launch screen and then goes black for a few seconds and loops back to the select game screen. I do not get any of the game sounds like I did before. The same also happens when I tried to use -gdi and -ddraw in the command line. Not sure if this is a step forward or backward. So close to playing these games I can taste it. Thank you again for the support and help.
  11. I did find that command in the wizard under display settings and changed it. It did not fix the black screen that shows up. Thanks for the help.
  12. Hello everyone! I am working on setting up my emulators and ran into an issue with MAME. I have MAME 0.149 with a 0.149 rom set. I have the correct path set and have updated the MAME rom list in GameEx. When I select a game to play, it launches and the screen goes black. I hear the sounds of the game and can operate the controls with the keyboard. I can hear credits adding and game play begin. How do I correct the black screen to show the game? I am stumped any help is greatly appreciated. I have other emulators running in GameEx without any issues. Attached are my GameEx log.txt and Configuration settings. Thank you.
