Ah ok, didn't realize this was a known bug that was already reported. Well it's good to know I'm not the only one then. I'll just wait for it to be fixed in a future revision. Thanks!

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem. Since version 6.10, the category for "More Games and Programs" is not showing up on the front page menu for me. I have the theme picker and the configuration app enabled and these normally would fall under that category. They are no longer there at all. If I set it to use flat menus these items come back, but I prefer the categorized look you get when you turn off flat menus. This problem only appears to be affecting the â??More Games and Programsâ? category. Any ideas Tom? Jeff

Well, yes, you can set up GameEX so it only shows working roms and no clones. I have mine set up so nothing is filtered at all so I see my entire collection of 5,000+ roms. -

I want to throw in a request for the ability to change font sizes as well. I have used the "no bracketed text" option to shorten the rom name, but when I use that I miss having the ability to see which version of the rom I'm about to play. I don't have any of my roms filtered, so on some games I might have 10 clones of the same game and without having the bracketed text there I don't know if I'm about to play a Brazillian version of a game that has a US clone that I'd rather be playing. Usually I keep the no bracketed text option off because I prefer to see the full rom name, but often times that makes the text run off the screen for the longer names. Having the ability to lower the font size would correct this problem. Please consider adding this. Thanks! Jeff -

I have a minor request. We actually discussed this a while ago, Tom. I don't think the method GameEX currently employs to download album cover art works all that well. I remember you saying that it connects to Amazon.com to download the CD cover art. Most of the CD's I have ripped for the jukebox either don't downlod the art at all, or download the wrong art, despite Amazon's website having the correct art. Can you rework this aspect of the program so that it takes the album art from another, more reliable source? Even the album art that Windows Media Player downloads is more accurate, so maybe you can use that art instead. Thanks! Jeff -
Hey guys, I noticed this over on Fileplanet and figured I'd mention it. They have a new download there which features a bunch of classic videogame commercials. I know some of you have used video game commercials as part of your (video) GameEX themes. Well, if you're looking for more this would be a good place to get them: http://www.fileplanet.com/152889/150000/fi...ame-Commercials Enjoy! Jeff

Is anyone else surprised that we haven't seen more themes created for GameEX? The popularity of our favorite front end has increased dramatically over the past few months as evidence by the growing number of members to the messageboard. It also garners a lot of attention on the Mame news sites, Mameworld in particular. The only real themes we have to choose from are the default theme and Rob's excellent GreenEx, RedEX, and BlueEX themes. I guess I just don't understand why more people haven't attempted to create some original themes. Believe me, if I was artistically talented at all I'd have made one myself a long time ago. Maybe people have made some and they just haven't bothered to share them with us yet. I guess this is just my little plea to the GameEX community to start pumping out some new themes. I know I'd download them! Jeff

Thanks Tom! It all makes sense now!

Tom, I've downloaded and played around with 3.48 and have a few questions / problems. I have my cabinet, control panel, marquees, and title images all saved as zip files. The help text in the ini file says the program can still recognize these as zip files (only icons must be unzipped). When I specify these as zip files in the config they do not show up in the program. When I unzip all of these artwork files they do show up. Is the help text wrong? Do these need to be unzipped in order to work properly? If so then is there any way you can fix this so the program can still recognize the images in the zip file. The snaps.zip file still seems to work properly however. Also, can you explain to me how the alpha paging is supposed to work? I have it enabled but it doesn't seem to do anything. When I use the page up / page down arrows it's not jumping to the next alphabetic letter. I'm not sure how this is supposed to function. Finally, when clicking on the marquee, title, etc. to make the image go full screen it'd be nice to be able to exit back to the previous screen via a left mouse click. I navigate GameEX with a mouse and I left click to make the image larger, but in order to go back to the previous screen it looks like I have to use either space bar or backspace on the keyboard. I think clicking the mouse should have the same effect. Can that be added? Thanks! Jeff

That "Like Humans Do" song you're hearing is a sample song that is included with Windows Media Player. You keep hearing that song because it's saved in your Windows Media Player playlist. You need to open up Windows Media Player and remove this song from the library, then add the MP3 of arcade songs to the Windows Media Player library. Just keep in mind that GameEX will only play songs that are listed in the Playlists / Library listings of Windows Media Player.

I've played with various sleep settings and have not found anything that's worked yet. Right now I have it set for 3 MS and it hasn't crashed in a few days. I'll let you know if it happens again.

I continue to get random "20 consecutive exceptions in a row" error messages but I don't see a messed up GameEX screen prior to the crash. My error messages occur without warning and I have yet to determine exactly what causes it. It's just a nuisance I've learned to live with at this point. Your problem sound much worse though. It's got me stumped! Jeff

Nevermind, I figured it out. I was having issues getting the font installed correctly. Thanks anyway!

Hey Everyone, Has anyone else had trouble using the latest version of the BlueEX theme with version 3.44 of the app? The other themes work fine, but when I select BlueEx (MCE1024x768) and run GameEX it immediately crashes to the desktop. The accompanying log file is as follows: 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: GameEx: Version 3.44: Starting Log 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Operating System Platform ID: Win32NT 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Operating System Version: 5.1 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Running Randomize() 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Running Misc startup tasks 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Hiding Cursor 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Opening Configuration File 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Getting Configuration Values 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Using Theme: English - BlueEx 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Checking for alternate Image Directory for Theme: English - BlueEx 16:43:20.1 3/13/2005: Applying Language/Text 16:43:20.2 3/13/2005: Launching HideOS.exe 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Initializing Component 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Using General Font: Trebuchet MS 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Using Title Font: Joystix 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Initialising DirectDraw 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Applying GameEx is Loading Image 16:43:21.0 3/13/2005: Creating DirectDraw Device 16:43:21.3 3/13/2005: Setting Resolution to 1024x768 32 bit color 16:43:21.7 3/13/2005: Creating DirectDraw Surfaces 16:43:21.7 3/13/2005: Creating Primary Surface 16:43:21.8 3/13/2005: Creating Back Buffer 16:43:21.8 3/13/2005: Loading graphic surfaces 16:43:22.3 3/13/2005: Creating Fonts 16:43:22.3 3/13/2005: Creating Menu Font 16:43:22.4 3/13/2005: Creating Game Font 16:43:22.4 3/13/2005: Creating Menu Font Standard Size 16:43:22.7 3/13/2005: Creating Font Black 16:43:22.8 3/13/2005: Creating Font Black Small 16:43:22.9 3/13/2005: Creating Game Font Faded 16:43:22.9 3/13/2005: Creating Title Font 16:43:23.1 3/13/2005: ERRORS DETECTED: EXITING I have followed Rob's directions carefully. I installed the new font, I copied the ini file from the modes\MCE1024x768 to the BlueEX root directory. I then copied the Media folder over from the modes directory to the root. I can't figure out why it keeps crashing. It displays the BlueEX loading screen but then crashes to the desktop. Any ideas? Jeff

Speaking of your cabinet, when do we get to see it, Tom! Jeff
