Hi,

Newby here. I ripped out the "guts" of my Arcade Legends 2 machine and converted it to a MAME machine because I wanted more games and because I could.

I am using Windows XP, Gamex, Mame32, and Advancemame for software.

I am using Ultimark's ArcadeVGA, J-pac and Optipac for hardware / interface.

My trackball works in windows environment great, but as soon as I run Gamex, games that use a trackball receive no input from the ball.

If I enable mouse control, the mouse moves the cursor, but trackball has no effect. I have played with lots of settings but have had no progress.

It is probably a pretty simple config setting that is elding me.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you adding the -mouse switch to your MAME command-line? Can be found in the Advanced MAME Settings section under MAME Options. Or can enable it in the mame.ini by setting mouse to 1 if using mame.ini.

Yes I checked and it is in there already.

I downloaded and ran marble madness and it worked fine with the ball.

I looked in the marble madness ini and there was nothing special in it regarding the ball.

Could there be something wrong with my missile command rom maybe ?

I will download centipede and millipede and see what they do.

Are you using a mame.ini file (or I guess mame32.ini) or are you sending all of your configuration info to MAME on the command line. Post the contents of the runitgame.bat file after playing a game. Also, if you are using a mame.ini/mame32.ini file, post that as well.

Oh, and btw, we try to avoid talking about how we get roms on this board. Just leave it at "I'll try rom xyz" rather than discussing about downloading it. The strict rule involves no discussing locations, but you know...

I am running mame32 through gameex, but when I run setup in gameex, it does have commands in the mame line.

here the mame32.ini from the mame32 ini folder and runit.bat. ( there is a mame32ui.ini file in mame32 root directory. do you want to see that ?

I had to change the file extension to txt because i wasn'tallowed to upload ini or bat files ??

Mame32.txt

runitgame.txt

The runitgame.bat file doesn't have -mouse nor is mouse set to 1 in the mame32.ini file. You need to either add the command line switch or edit the ini file. That *should* get it going.

I tried both those suggestions but they had no effect. The good news is I got it working.

When I went into the UI global controls ( now that i am starting to learn the power and usefullness of the UI ) I remapped the track x and track Y with my trackball. What I found was that my trackball is putting out a signal as if it were player 2 trackball . ie the key mapping was changed from 1x and 1y to 2x and 2y. I am using ultimark's opti-pac and have since learned that there is a jumper setting on the board that causes player1 and player 2 to be routed to the port. i haven't changed the jumper yet, but changing the global track input to player 2 has worked perfectly and luckily the other trackball games still work ( maybee they are set for player 1 or player2 trackball ).

Thanks again.

Sorry, I didn't realize you hadn't remapped the controls yet either. The first step is to tell MAME that you are using a mouse. The second step is to remap the controls to the mouse as needed. If you skip either step, you won't be able to get your trackball functioning.
