Any advice on best way for a relative programming novice to get an X-Arcade Dual Joystick working correctly with gameEX? Specifically to setup for use with MAME emulator & operate gameEX menu. I did some configuring thru set-up wizard, but when trying to play a game thru mame the joystick could not control the game, although buttons functioned correctly. Other issue also that X-Arcade joystick when moving joystick and pressing a button at same time changes the monitor/display, like it flipped it completely upside down and not just with gameEX, windows too. Running Vista.

Hey banksa60. I've got 2 questions to help troubleshoot your X-Arcade. First, is the programing switch that's on the back all the way to the right? That's if your looking down on the back panel. Second, is Number Lock enabled? Most all the buttons on player 1 side is from NumKeys. Check those settings out.

ok I did turn num lock on with the keyboard and that seems to have taken care of the display changing, though will I always need a keyboard plugged in to prevent that? Looking at the switch on the back, it is all the way to the right closest to the serial port.

You do not need to have a keyboard plugged in at all times. This may also be a reason your having trouble. The only time you need a keyboard plugged into the X-Arcade is when you are using it to program one of the unassigned slots (the switch that is supposed to be all the way to the right) and that's it. The different slots on that switch are for programing your own settings.

ok, I appreciate your help. It appears I have the problem down to one thing, the joystick on player 1 side is not working in the emulator. It can navigate fine thru gameEX, but not in the MAME game. I tested player 2 side on Double Dragon and it functioned properly. Any idea what I can do to fix this?

also for what its worth the joystick responds fine doing the Xgaming.com test. I also tried opening a couple of different games and the player 1 joystick does not move in any of the 4 directions.

Have you set up your buttons in MAME? Other than that, the only way to make work out-of-the box is to use the xarcade.cfg file for your controls. That way they will map to the standard x-arcade setup. Depends on your liking.

Ok so it a MAME control issue then now. Which version of MAME are you using?

What OS are you using? You may want to upgrade your version of MAME to the latest. The current version is 0.141U2.

where can I get the xarcade.cfg? I can only find the one for maximus on their site.

OS is Windows Vista.

Here is my xarcade.cfg see if that works for you. Just make sure you show it in the Controllers tab as the one you want to work. Just unzip and put in the ctrlr folder in MAME.

XArcade.rar

nevermind, thanks for that controller tab bit, that seemed to do the trick. Everything seems to be working fine now, thanks a lot everyone.

Most excellent! Glad you got it all sorted.

Make this a [RESOLVED] thread then.
