Hello,

I just updatet ScummVM to 1.2.0 (support for Sierra SCI-Games finally!) and in the process fiddled with the GameEx-settings. What I found is that I no longer need those "dummy files" at all! All that's needed is a Map-file with the game shortcuts, e.g.:

monkey|The Secret of Monkey Island

monkey2|Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

zak|Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

...

and ScummVM does the rest. In fact it doesn't seem to matter at all where the Rom-Path in GameEx points, as the correct path is selected by ScummVM itself (make sure to add the games inside ScummVM first of course!).

Not sure if this is really new to you ScummVM-users out there, but maybe it'll help a few people.

Cheers, Thomas

Maybe we never needed dummy files? From memory I think GameEx always listed games in a map file even if they didn't exist. So yeah, nice find there Cabirus! B)

I never used dummy files before, I just installed the games without GameEx and used a MAP file to show the titles I wanted. Of course, I haven't set up ScummVM since I re-did my cab setup, so I may not know what I'm talking about... But I don't recall using dummy files for that emulator in the past. *puzzled*

I'm no stranger to MAP files though, since I use one for my SEGA CD emulator too.

How did dummy files even get suggested to begin with? I think they just complicate things. MAP files are the way to go. ;)

This goes back a loooong time ago when I first setup ScummVM ;)

Thanks for the help on getting ScummVM up and running easy. I used this information to configure it on my system. To make it even easier, I wrote a script to use after adding the games inside ScummVM to automatically make a map file to use in GameEx. It reads the ScummVM.ini and outputs a map file for all the games in the correct format. Simply run it in the same directory as the scummvm.ini file. On My Windows 7 system I found the scummvm.ini file in C:\Users\[userid]\AppData\Roaming\ScummVM. For other operating systems it will be located in a different path.

1. Download the ScummVMiniToMap.zip attached to this post

2. Extract ScummVMiniToMap.vbs

3. Copy ScummVMiniToMap.vbs to same directory as the scummvm.ini

4. Open a command prompt in this directory and run "cscript ScummVMiniToMap.vbs" This will create a ScummVM.map file that you can configure the ScummVM emulator to use in GameEx.
