Hi. I just installed GameEx and it recognizes all my available roms (i set it to), but when I click on "play this game" it looks like its loading the rom, goes black, then comes back to the GameEx screen.

I am having this problem with my VirtuaNES and N64 roms...

N64 (Project64): rom loads, fade to black, nothing happens, hit escape, back to the selected rom screen which now says "times played: 1".

VirtuaNES (and Nessie for that matter): rom loads, black screen, "fatal error" sound can be heard in the background, hit escape, "times played: 1".

I checked the log but there are no errors. MAME32 and Zsnes work fine. Is it just a matter of tinkering with the emulator display set-ups (they work fine outside of GameEx)?

Thanks for any and all help (I'll need it).

Hi.. i'm having the same problem with Kega Fusion.

Turning off map keyboard commands solve it.

But i kinda need it on, in order to use it with "Back" on my remote.

I don't think this was an issue in 5.24?

What makes you think that?

Was it working previously? Are you sure its not just your confg?

ALL - Please post seperate specific details about whats not working. 'GameEx wont launch games' is really not helpfull. Ask about specific emulators or problems.

All GameEx does is launch these extrenal programs. It requires a fair amount of config to get it to work properly.

right, there is an issuse with the MAP KEYBOARD COMMANDS setting in the config for curtain emulators that was not there in previous versions i know this because i had them all working perfictly in older versions and did not change my config just upgraded then the problems started. i have uninstalled and re installed and re configed and when i turn on the command that allows you to exit the emus with the esc key it causes the program that you try to load to exit as soon as it loads. other people apear to be having the same problem. though is this dependent on the emulators you use? dont know. anyway there you go

I have testet with 2 different versions of GameEx, version 5.14 and version 5.25 using the EXACT same config file.

Version 5.14 works flawless but 5.25 has random problems with, in my case, Kega Fusion (Sega Genesis emu).

When selecting a Sega Genesis rom from the GameEx game-list, Kega Fusion launches, but is hidden by the HideOS app (or so it seems..the screen is black, but I can "ALT-TAB" over to Fusion, which still only shows black screen, but I can see the title of the rom file next to Fusion's name in the "Alt-Tab" probgram list, which must mean that it has launched the rom-files as requested). This seems to happen every 2. or 3. time I try launch a game. Other times it works as is should without problems.

However!: If I set "Emu_x Map Keys" to "No", version 5.25 works without problems.

So Tom, please try for your self. I have attached my GameEx Fusion cfg.

Thanks, yes I will look at it, not sure what's going on though.

Can you replace gameex.exe with the one attached. Try it with mapkeys on, and post the log if its still not working. If its working now let me know.

Thanks.

If that does not work try this EXE.

If it still does not work try disabling your gamepad in the config see if that makes a difference.

Hi Tom, and thanks for the quick feedback.

I've just finished testing the files you posted along with the "final" 5.30.

I'm sorry to say that the bug remains, although you must be getting closer, because now I can actually see the emu/game running when i press "Back/Esc" (a 2 sec. flash of the game running is shown before the emu is quit).

Also before, the bug was gone when I disabled "Emu_x map keys", but in the new version 5.30, this has no effect. Meaning that when map keys is disabled the problem persists.

I have attached logfiles, with joypad enabled and disabled, along with Kega Fusion (with my settings .ini file) along with some PD roms for testings purposes.

Hope this helps..

It seems Kega Fusion needs the showdesktop setting enabled for the emu to work correctly. I really have no clue why its working in the older versions and what it has to do with map keys. Just turn on show desktop for that emu.

I would like to say that this seems to be a different issue to what Sparkles is reporting because he/she said that with the Map Keys on games exited immediatly. Your games dont exit immediatly, hideos is just covering up the emu.

If sparkles can post the log with the latest version that will shed more light on the'different' issue.

Turn on showdesktop for this emu.

EDIT: It seems like it might be that the emulator is not starting in full screen mode.

Try pressing ALT-ENTER.

OK Found the problem. Escape switches the emulator between full screen and windowed. So when you escape the emulator with map keys it switches and then saves the mode for next time fusion its run. Im not sure how yourll fix it, but it has nothing to do with a GameEx bug.

Try pressing ALT-ENTER.

The emulator can be forced to fullscreen by setting "FullScreen=1" in the fusion.ini file. The problem is that "ESC" toggles "fullscreen/window mode" in the emulator, meaning that, if you set "FullScreen=1" in the .ini fil, launch GameEx, launch a Sega rom and press "ESC", this will toggle fullscreen to windowmode and exit the emulator. When the next rom is launched it will be in windowed-mode. When you press ESC this will again toggle to fullscreen and exit, making the next rom launch correctly in fullscreen (making every 2. rom launch in fullscreen).

This was not an issue in the "older" builds of GameEx..

The "ESC" key must somehow be sent through the mapping -> emulator(?)

Well it should of been. Just a weird quirk that it wasn't. If it wasnt a problem then GameEx was obviously killing off Fusion to quickly and it was not exiting properly. That would have been a bug in itself.

Its nothing for me to fix here, sorry.

Try making the ini read only. I also believe theres a modified version out there that exits with the escape key.

Thanks..

It works fine now, using show desktop and setting the fusion.ini to "read only".
