i'm a bit confused

many many many of my games have an impressively detailed description in the gameex front end at the 'play now' 'add to favorites' stage, yet some don't.

does it have to do with the name of the file or something?

are these descriptions stored locally? or are they downloaded from some online database.

would there be a way to 'repair' my mislabeled games so that they might conform better with this database? and if so, where can i find any reference material on the subject?

All of the "Database" information is stored in .mdb files that are installed along with GameEx. (I believe the are in /DATA/EMULATORS)

The way the .mdb files work is, if the name of your rom matches the name in the database, it will display the information. At the bare minimum, you'll get the company and the year of the game. The name of the rom could actually match one of several Rom Names in the database itself... usually there are names reserved for GoodSets... No-Intro (Reccomended)... Tosec... or whatever else.

Some consoles have .mdb files, but are barely worked on, or barely started... the PS1 for example probably won't show anything for any game.

The database to use for each emulator is specified in the Advanced Config under "Database".

Now I've got only one piece of advice for fixing your romsets to match... get No-Intro DATS off the DAT-O-MATIC... and use CLRMAMEPRO to run a scan on your current set. It will do the renaming to No-Intro standards (pretty much agreed to be the best) which will match your databases better.

just found out that 'no-intro' sets do not support translation projects. which set would you guys prefer as an alternative tosec or goodsets?

no-intro for everything...

and then add translation projects and some other hacked roms manually!

good sets were always really confusing i find... there are just too many cracker groups who released certain game titles and i just need the game itself (usually only us versions) , not all of these cracked roms as well
