Stupid questions about game-specific controls, "All Games", and Visual Pinball.

1. Is there any way to have game-specific controls? For example, I'm currently using a Gamecube controller and so it needs to be changed around for every SNES game, depending on which buttons I need where... Also, this would be useful to auto-set light-gun and mouse games, if it doesn't already (haven't tried).

2. Is there any way to have "All Games" include the MAME games, as well?

3. Can anyone give me advice on getting Visual Pinball to work? The guide in the tutorials section did not work at all.

Answer to 1 would be to script something. Could have it choose a different control layout based on what game is ran. That's a lot of work and something you'll have to put some time into. There are scriptor's here, including myself but I'm not willing to write it as it would take too much of my time but willing to help with the coding. So if you're willing to learn then I'm willing to help! ;) This is just a tedious task IMO.

I'm... not sure how that program will help? ?_?

Actually won't help unless you want to do to it in MAME but you didn't ask for that.

Which I specifically stated. I will be sure to put you on my "Only anwser specific questions list" ;)

Stop confusing people Tempest! :P

I bet The T got all excited thinking you had a solution only to link to your app that he didn't need support for!

I think I was just confused by his grammar. It sounded like he was saying, "I made an app to do it, except it doesn't do it for MAME."

He wrote:"Unless you want to do it in Mame,"--which I don't--"then I already wrote a program to do it"--which would be an affirmative that it isn't for MAME.

Read it like this:

Seems clear to me... Having a hard time understanding Frequency's posts though... Maybe he can put it into a different context (Within this thread), and help me understand.

I mean that I'm not willing to create such an app but am willing to help with the coding if he/she takes an interest in learning. The goal would be to choose the control layout based on which game is passed to the command-line.

Well if you want my opnion..... uh oh.... here it comes....

You dont change the layout of the controls. See as a console owner you are stuck with the gamepad design. Most games allowed for in game key remapping that usually gets saved to static ram... or in this case a save file.

If your gamecube controller sucks in design try using a logetic... They are very similar in design to snes/psx gamepads and may give you the best results. I have used the gamecube controller and I am not a big fan of it. But the logic still stays.. Do the mappings once and stick with it or find a more suitable controller.

There Ive said it... :)

Oh, That explains this:

Actually won't help unless you want to do to it in MAME but you didn't ask for that.

BTW: I don't see how you can make this call, because his first post was:

I obviously don't have a good grasp of the English Language, But to me for "For Example" means that it is one possibility, and that there may be others. Then he mentions Mame:

2. Is there any way to have "All Games" include the MAME games, as well?

And I jumped to the conclusion that maybe he's running Mame, and would like to do the same in Mame.

Back to you:

Oh yeah, your only intent was to help him, but I took it like your being an A$$. I would still appreciate it if you could show me how I am wrong.

Dude! Relax! I was kidding! Hence the laugh and sticking of the tongue. We all know you were trying to help. I knew what he was talking about based on his first post that he was looking to do this for SNES.
