Long time lurker, first time poster. Please redirect me if this has been covered; I searched and didn't find a thread on this.

How can I edit the names and/or summaries GameEx displays for each ROM? They're not the ROM names, and they're not the Display Names, and frankly, the spelling and capitalization inconsistancies are driving me nuts!

Edit the names and/or summaries but yet they're not the Rom names, and not the Display names. So not sure what you mean by this. Summaries about the games are located in the databases found in the DATA\EMULATORS directory of your GameEx install. The names that are displayed in GameEx are located in the map files located in the DATA directory.

If you have "use database names" turned on and the database set up for each emulator, then the names are set in the mdb's located in GAMEEX/DATA/EMULATORS

There is a single file for each system and within you will find all that you need to edit (microsoft access). This is an ongoing project and as such, many of the databases are not complete. If you look here Database Project you will see a list of complete and in progress databases. So, if you find an entry with errors that is marked as complete - please let me know!

Thanks

Is there any way to edit the database without Microsoft Access? I have OpenOffice and I don't believe there's any way to save it in Access format. Why can't it just be an Excel table...? D=

I used access originally, and now I use private software called GxDBM, so sadly I cannot help here. I do wonder if a free version of visual studio may have the ability to open access files and edit them? It sounds like it would be a good idea if it did, so maybe?

I am sure there was a post about editing the database files a while back, i believe it was IMBerzerk who was editing his.

OpenOffice should work just fine from what I remember. It handles databases. Hard for me to test since don't use it but try opening it up and if you can read it then can likely edit and save it as well.

Nope. OpenOffice can open Access files, but it can't save them in Access format, meaning GamEx wouldn't be able to read the saved files.

Junk! Thanks for the heads up The T! Unfortunately I guess you'll have to resort to other options Cinemastique. :(

Aww. Well, what other options are there for me? Is there a third party app that will let me access, modify, and SAVE the databases?

Would that ROMS had a simple equivalent of an ID3 tag, like mp3s have!

I know there are a few Access readers, but I don't know any off the top of my head that can write. I have Access at work and at home, so I've never needed to use one of those options.

Well, I have Access 2007 at home. Will that be all I need? :)
