Thanks to the help of the GameEx forum I finally have consoles on my Arcade! I'm trying to set everything up now and played a SNES game to horrible success, I just can't seam to find the best button configuration. Does anybody know where I can find an image that may show the 'best' button configurations for different systems? Mainly, I am having difficulty arranging: SNES, N64, Dreamcast, PSX.

Here is how my P1 and P2 buttons are arranged

1 2 3

4 5 6

7 8

Any resources or opinions are appreciated! :P

This really comes down to personal preference. It's all a matter of what's comfortable to you. I myself tried different configurations and couldn't get the feel that I was looking for. Playing consoles/handhelds on an arcade setup just didn't feel right so I purchased a couple of game pads to achieve what I was after.

Well I've tried my personal preferences, but I'd like to see if anybody has a setup they've used over time and enjoyed. Anybody? :)

B = 4

A = 5

Y = 1

X = 2

L = 3

I've been using my 7 button CP for consoles for a while now and never really thought it felt right. I recently gave up and purchased a pair of gamepads. I just got Project64 set up last night and all I can say is WOW! Things work SOOOOO much better when you have a good controller. I guess that makes sense since most of cabinet building is (or at least should be) focussed on the CP. It shouldn't seem foreign to think that consoles would be the same.

I ended up going thru 4 control panel tops and 2 entire control panel boxes to get the feel I wanted.

I settled on 8 buttons for player 1-2 and 6 for player 4-5

These are titled at 15 degrees and staggered to match your fingers.

the layout was also

1234/8

456

7

In other words the 4th button on the top row can be button 4 in 4 button mame games, or button 8 in dreamcast / P.S. games

Attached is a janky template I used to cut out my controls.. not sure if I like the placement of the 8th button still or not.

I took the easy way out, Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2. I'm going to program it so it has the same buttons as the control panel, that way I don't have to do anything as I switch back and forth.
