I never got around to installing CP Wizard until today....i have a couple of weird problems.

1) If i launch CP wizard "outside" of Gamex and "then" start Gamex separately afterward everything is fine.....but im confused as to how to use CP Wizard properly:

a) when i start up a mame game and then press "p" the cpwizard menu comes up fine. I have it set to show on my second monitor which is cool. But why does it "pause" the game itself? And how the heck do you "un-pause" it?? I always have to control-alt-delete to get out of it. Also how do you close CPWizard? I dont see an exit?

2) If i set Gamex to launch CPwizard in the advanced config the CPwizard menu doesnt show up. It seems to launch itself but the screen is just black and my game will pause. I have to control-alt-delete to get out of it.

pls help! thx

I think i have it working now sort of....??

But is there anyway to have CPWizard running on my 2nd monitor and it "Not Pause" MAME when playing a game? The only way i found to unpause the game is to exit CPwizard itself then hit "p" again and then game starts again. Is this the way it's supposed to work? So I guess im asking is there a way have CPwizard not pause mame? So i can play the game "and" have the cpwizard showing up on my 2nd monitor?

Also, I see that batch export option to create controls panels to put in your mame artwork folder......but if i do that it will "overwrite" my "actual" artwork "bezels" for games. So do you have to choose one or the other? I don't understand........So if i export them as .png's and not bezels what do i do with those png's?

pls help! thx

Yeah my biggest question is CPwizard supposed to pause mame? I know "p" is for pause....but "P" also is how u launch CPWizard....i was rly rly hoping that u could leave CPWizard up running "while" you are playing.......im rly wondering is this not how it works? I hope not :( id like to play while having it up so i can look at the controls....or just leave the Marquee up on my 2nd monitor....hat would look pretty cool.

Heya Brian

CPWizard is "attached" to the pause key in MAME. So whatever u set the inputting setting to in Mame for pause CPWizard automatically will use that new key as well, no matter what you set it to. I'm wondering if this is what Headkaze intended for it to do? I'm sure there are 100's of CPWizard users out there to answer that! :)

Would be very cool to be able to have MAME "not pause" when bringing up the CPWizard menu so you can view artwork or controls "while" playing. I'm sure that's the way Headkaze intended it right? To play the game and see the controls at the same time? That's why I'm thinking i must have something set up wrong? Or is this actually the way CPWizard works? That you can't play and view the controls at the same time?

That's why i thought dual monitor support was added.....?

But there is not "pause" key option to set in CPWizard.....

So you have a way to bring up CPWizard "in-game" without MAME pausing? How pls?

Weird thing is....even if i go in CPWizard and change the input "Show Key" and "Exit Key" to new valuez.......for some reason they don't do anything. I still need to hit "P" to bring up CPwizard. Even though i have absolutely nothing binded to "P" in CPWizard.....?

I don't know... I am just using CPWizard to customize my CP layout before a Mame game starts, I am not using it for anything else. All I did was look at the layout for CPWizard and turn of the key for pause in it that was assigned to my CP.

The way CPWizard works now is it will pause Mame. It also depends on what version of Mame your running as to how it works.

If your running CPWizard with the "Mame Output System" option enabled then it will detect Mame pausing no matter what key you press to pause Mame. If you turn off that option it will use the "Show Key" under the input options.

CPWizard was not really designed to show while playing a game, but I think it would be a nice feature. I think there may be problems with Mame interfering with CPWizard though. It could be a hard thing to do actually.

HK,

I know you have alot on your plate, but...

We talked before about the possibibility of you writing a plugin to display an image on a secondary monitor. This was in the thread where you showed me a thread from BYOAC about the guy who had a monitor for a marquee. I have my second monitor now, and it looks like Kingb33 would be interested in a plugin like this as well. I tried the Gameextender, but it doesn't allow you to choose what is displayed, maybe Tom would be willing to make gameextender more flexible?

I'm not sure if you are still available for a project like this, but if you are, let us know. As always, I'm in no hurry...

Hey Tempest,

Yeah i actually requested this from Tom in GameEx. To be able to have control of a secondary image on the secondary monitor using the extender....but that request got lost in the craziness of the stuff on his plate im sure....id rather actually see this added to CPWizard more so than GameEx....it would be VERY cool for people using dual monitor setups. Actually using dual monitor setup with Visual Pinball with the second monitor displaying the backglass of that table has been the coolest thing ive been able to do thru a funky solution someone posted in the 3D Arcade forums awhile back.....it enhances the experience 1000%

I wanted to mention that another disadvantage to the MAME Pause being tied to CPWizard is that other MAME controls like the Save and Load game (F7 & F8 I believe?) Function keys will trigger CPWizard. This, to me, is more of an issue for CPWizard being used long term because it actually negates a key MAME function that people use.
