Hello all.

First, thank you Tom for making Gameex. It has made me waste away several hours of my life enjoying the sheer awesomeness of it.

I have 3 questions....

Somehow one of my files in game ex got corrupted.......Data something anyways now my most played games shows nothing found....anyway of fixing this aside from reinstalling? The last played still works fine just most played shows nothing...

I have been fooling around with Mameplus! and changing resolutions and what not. Now the game info bezels that are on the bottom no longer come on when running the screensaver....solution for that?

Is there anyway to implement the game info bezels for other emulators? That would be really nice to see one for every game shown in the attract mode. Maybe it can't be done cus the other emulators do not support artwork or something like that?

Anyways, thank you for the help in advance. Reading through the forums I have already seen that this is a great group of people when it comes to help.

1) Just delete the GameEx file that stores this info and rebuild anew.

2) There's an option to turn this feature on and off in Advanced Config I believe.

3)No, but I think that would be awesome! If only it were possible using info from that new DB that Flash and Kaze are working on.

I'm actually quite happy that mame plus only shows me the side bezels but not the one on the top or on the bottom. I remember that this annoyed me when I still used standard mame because when playing some neo geo games the actual playing screen was smaller. Now the bezels basically only show up for vertical games.

Anyway I don't know how to switch off this behaviour. I can only tell you that when I start Mame Plus without Gameex the bezels display on top and on the bottom. I think in gameex.ini there is an option something like usebezel=0. you can set this to "2" (the wrong setting i think is "1" which will cause gameex to not play vertical games anymore) anyway, i never did that myself so maybe brian or bkenobi can hop in and help. But maybe this had only something to do with replacing the side bezels with a standard layout :huh:

Thanks for the help guys. I have decided to just reinstall game ex, because I can't see what I have done to make it turn off the game info across the bottom. In the advanced config bezel settings I dont see an option for using "2" , just yes or no, unless you are talking about an .ini or something.

So, will it matter if I just install game ex over my old installed one without removing it first? I would like to keep the themes and images and do not know if I would need to copy them somewhere else.

Oh and Chriss, I read your topic on removing the nag screen from Mame. Thank you!!

But is there a way to get rid of the initializing and decoding dialog boxes as well when the rom is loading??

yeah i meant the gameex.ini in the gameex dir...

have you tried using mame instead of mame plus? does it show the bottom bezels?

yes, my description also removes these boxes (the render.c part)

The attract mode info on the bottom is only available in MAME because it has the ability to show overlays (bezels, etc). Other emulators don't have that ability since there's no such thing as a bezel on a console. It might be possible to do something for portable systems like Gameboy or Game Gear in emulators that put a system image around the game screen, but it's not likely to be implemented due to limited desire and potentially extensive complexity. MAME was pretty easy for HK to put together (it was a small extension from the CPWizard project he was working on at the time), but these other systems are VERY different in complexity...

@bkenobi:

Ahhh I figured it wouldnt work on other emulators because of something like that. Would be nice though, but not worth all the extra work involved.

@chriss:

I tried Mame instead of Mameplus!, and yeah they do come on there, so I must have messed up Mameplus! configuration...thx for reminding me to check that out. Now after some tweaking I will have them back on there.

I don't think you messed it up. the difference seems to be that mame plus is configured that way since my config is the same. You just gotta figure out how to change it in mame plus :huh:

If you are going to start over with Gameex, and you have the space, I would make a copy of the entire directory. At the very minimum, make a copy of your Gameex.ini.

Hmmm.. Id edit the mame.ini to show or hide the bezels... The mame.ini should be in the mame folder... If it is missing run the mame.exe (what ever it is for your version and do -cc

eg.. mame32.exe -cc

anyways that should fix that in a hurry.

Thank you everyone who has replied, this is an extremely helpful forum.

I compiled my own mameplus! using chriss' tutorial to skip the warning screens, and lo and behold the bezels work for it now. :D

Now all I have to do is copy my directory, so I can reinstall game-ex again to get back my most played screen with my current settings.

Appreciate all of your help!

Nope, everything in your tutorial was very easy to follow chriss, it worked for me perfectly.

The most played screen in game-ex stopped functioning on me prior to any of it because my computer shut off during a power outage and it corrupted a file within game-ex.....I cant remember the exact name of it..something Data and it had to be deleted so thereafter the most played screen in game-ex just shows nothing. I guess the file contained my most played data...the last played still works fine and everything. I figured that game-ex would rebuild the file when I relaunched it but it hasnt so I guess the only option left is to reinstall. That's why I am going to copy my current directory so i can just paste it back when I reinstall so my configuration will still be setup along with my themes.

Thx for all your help again guys.
