I would like to start downloading some FAQs for various games. Is there a way to link them up in the game launch screen, and also maybe pull it up in-game? If so, I must have missed it. If not, there should be! ;)

You can have a manual display like you are talking about, but a text file....? I think someone asked about a way to launch FAQ like this a while back, but I don't think anything came from it. The only thing I can think of is converting the FAQ to a pdf file and using the built-in manual viewer.

I thought of that, but that would mean sacrificing my manuals for one, and I can't pull them up in-game for two. :(

You could have a script that waits for a button combo and then displays the text file when appropriate. I don't know how you would control viewing or closing (probably part of the script). I wonder if this would be something that could be included in CPWizard? It can do other in game stuff, so perhaps.

Tom was suggesting in the new database thread that FAQ data could be added in there. It sounds like Tom is onboard with adding in a text FAQ reader of some kind, but he wants to do it a little different than the manuals.

I think Tom was thinking the databases could contain that data and GameEx would just pull the data from there. I don't think downloading all the FAQ will be required, but nothing is set yet. I'm sure there will be a need to get all the FAQ's for the databases, but I suspect it will be done via the scraping program HK put together.

The hard part will be figuring out a way to keep only the best FAQ for each game. Most of thet time there are several for each game. In some cases there's even several versions of the same FAQ (by the same person). Maybe the best way would be to download all FAQs and just list them all in GameEx. This increases the database size, but it would be more flexible.

There used to be a tool called mp3-wolf that was designed to search the internet by following web page links and return a list of mp3 files in a nice sorted selectable interface. You could then click and download any or all of the files in a single step. As I recall, the company also made a few other ones like FTP-wolf, file-wolf, etc. The one that applies here is file-wolf. With that tool, you would be able to tell it to search a web site for all files matching a criteria and download them in one fail swoop. The down side is that they would be unsorted. So, you aren't really any better off if you could even find the software.

I found a link that contains a list of the programs that are still available AFAIK... link or in English
