Hi!

I have Game EX in my big Arcade Cab (Nova Big Screen) with a JPAC and original Arcade monitor.

with no problem ;)

and now I have installed it in my selfmade Bartop. Its a fresh installed Windows XP-SP2 Home on a AMD Sempron 3000+ (1,8GHz) with 512 MB RAM on an ASUS K8V X SE Board.

Unfortunately Game EX is flickering and seems to be very slow. The windows and all what is written flickers and the scrolling is slow.

it is slower when i chose 1024x768 (I think its on 5 fps or something!!!) and faster when i use 640x480 - but it allways flickers...

What can be the error?

i have looked in my System ("Gerätemanager" in german i dont know what it is called in english :P )

and there the video driver is named "NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 video card"

this is what the XP installation has installed by itself i dont have a driver CD for the card, but i think i is possible that it is the right one? my card has 32MB RAM and i think it IS a TNT2 card (i am not sure though)

i have made a foto of the card... can this really be an nvidia card?

Yes it could be.. Nivida is the chipset used.. They actually dont make the cards..

There are about 100 manufatrures that use the technology.

Worst case it it wont install

It looks like it could be a TNT2. There were a lot of generic versions made by different manufacturers. They were VERY popular back in the day.

Well I tried their taiwan site and it just redirects back to the NVidia driver download page. Normally their drivers should work fine. I tried going to the NVidia site and selected TNT2 from the legacy list and it links to the same driver Brian linked to, so I have no idea why it didn't detect your card.

Maybe try going to driverguide and do a search on there for it.

i have installed this driver without a error message:

66.93_win2kxp_english

and rebooted...

but GameEX still flickers

its not the MAME games, only GameEX menus

i have made a short video with my camera (i own a 16MB MemStick only - so its very short ;) )

i think you can see it - especially at the screenshot (flicker) and when i select a game the menue disappears very slowly (at the very end of the video)

here is the link: LINK

I don't know... I don't know much about it. It looks to me like it started off with only 29MB available. Do you have on-board (built into the mother board) available? If so, maybe you could enable that and see if it helps. I am way out of my league...

Those two guys on the west coast (Brian, and Bkenobi) will wake up soon, maybe they can help you. The forum is usually pretty quiet on the weekends, if you don't get help this weekend, ask again on Monday.

Sorry I can't help you.... :(

i dont have VGA on board... and the video card has 32MB only. since MAME does not take any advantage of a good graficscard i thought this is ok.

but I dont know if GameEX needs more resources :(

Minimum System Requirements

DirectX(DirectDraw) Compatible Video card, capable of 16 bit colour at 640X480.

I don't remember the resolution, but there have been cases in the past where GameEx reported 0mb of video memory. One of the reasons was logging into the system remotely and running GameEx, but I think there were more.

I did a little looking around...

1. Try changing to 16 bit color

2. Set gameeex to "don't change resolution"

3. Use a lower resolution if possible

I really don't know if this will work, But it's all I could find... Again, I'm way out of my league...
