MAME games that have artwork won't start.

In the GameEx.ini I have this line:

MameOptions=-triplebuffer -hwstretch -nowindow -joy -noswitchres

It works fine when running a game without artwork.

log.txt:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Games\MAME\mamepgui.exe gtmr -rompath L:\Emulation\Systems\MAME\Games -triplebuffer -hwstretch -nowindow -joy -noswitchres

But when starting a game with artwork, here is from log.txt again:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: C:\Games\MAME\mamepgui.exe 1942 -rompath L:\Emulation\Systems\MAME\Games -triplebuffer -hwstretch -nowindow -joy -noswitchres -artwork -artwork_directory artworkgameex

Where does the "-artwork -artwork_directory artworkgameex" come from?

"-artwork" isn't even a valid command line option. I've tested to run it from the command prompt and MAME gave me this message:

"Error: unknown option: -artwork"

I did register GameEx yesterday and I have made some major changes to the configuration files. Does it have something to do with that?

Or is it a bug?

Can I disable artwork?

You must have the path to the arwork set wrong. When you setup mame in GameEx you tell it the paths to your snapshots, box art etc.. You may have this path set to just 'artworkgameex' when it should be something like: L:\Emulation\Systems\MAME\artworkgamex. The path will depend on where you have it located.

You can turn off the artwork option in the mame.ini file (it's in your mame folder) by setting it to 0. In fact, you may want to alter that file to reflect your commandline options above rather than setting them through GameEx. Ie. instead of having the -triplebuffer command line switch you're setting above just go into your mame.ini file, look for triplebuffer and set it to '1' which is on, '0' is off.

I don't use a folder called "artworkgameex'", I've neved had. The path is correct "L:\Emulation\Systems\MAME\artwork".

I've made a "find in file"-search for "artworkgameex" to see if it existed in a configuration file somewhere, in the MAME folder and the GameEx folder.

I did find this line in a file called runitgame.bat:

mamepgui.exe 1942 -rompath L:\Emulation\Systems\MAME\Games -triplebuffer -hwstretch -nowindow -joy -noswitchres -artwork -artwork_directory artworkgameex

and I found a folder called "artworkgameex'" in the MAME folder, which I never had seen before.

I deleted both the file and the folder and tried to run a game from GameEx again, it didn't work. But now I noticed that GameEx had created both the runitgame.bat-file and the folder. GameEx seems to be making that folder name up from nowhere.

I'v e tried deleting the artwork path entierly in GameEx.ini, disable/enable artwork in MAME. Nothing helps.

Btw, when starting games from the MAME UI, every game works, with or without artwork.

It has to be some kind of strange bug. The GameEx version is 9.42.

Damn! I was hoping to waste post #1000 on something frivilous...Maybe I am! :P

The gameex artwork folder is created by gameex for use when the "Use Bezels" option is on.

So set Use Bezels to no, or do a search for "bezels", and see what turns up...

Brian - Got Steaks?

DJ - Your 3-sided cocktail is done!

Shaunopp - Have you noticed that "The spike in posts" has gone down?

Frequency - Can you write a script to make my spinner (steering wheel) control Gameex in my driving cab?

HK - I have given up... (for now at least) I'm having fun with my cabs...

Greatflash - Pick any game for that system... as long as it is a B&W vector! :P

BK - I'm still hoping to get my lightguns working before you do.

Tom - I upgraded to the latest version, and now my truck won't run anymore!

I hope I didn't leave anyone out! Happy 1000th post Tempest!
