hey guys,

i'm still trying to sort through my rom collection. i once used adulterys dats which really gave me a clean rom collection. but it's a pity that the naming convention is not no-intro after the dat is applied so not compatible with files from emumovies.

so now with circo's release of the updated nes collection i decided to re-download a no-intro set.

now i have again japanese, european and us roms. circo only has snaps for us roms though. how can i get rid of the no-intro foreign languages? how can i match the snaps from emumovies with my rom collection?

Unless Adultery starts doing this for his dats then you're gonna have to do it manually. Might be a way by comparing crc's and then renaming accordingly but sounds like lots of work. No disrespect to Adultery but IMO the way to go is using maps to list your roms instead of renaming so when there's an update or in your case needing Circo's files that they will match up.

thanks for your quick reply, but how do i actually use map files in gameex?

it may sound like the dumbest noob question but i actually haven't spend time on this.. is there a map file that will only show me the us versions?

Well would have to create your own maps to show what you want. From your earlier post it seems you wanna filter out foreign languages. There's different ways you could go.

1. Keep Adultery's naming convention and rename your images/videos manually.

2. Create a map file listing the language you want after rebuilding your set back to No-Intro.

3. In clrmamepro you could rebuild your set using the No-Intro dat and then use regex in the set information window to list only the language you want. But if you already have the language you want then your set should just need renaming.

4. Also can use GameEx to filter those games out but still need to rebuild your set.

Either way you're looking to rename your roms back to No-Intro or continue using Adultery's set and rename your images/videos. I know this has come up before so don't know if Adultery has been working on supplying images/videos for his dats. Adultery might wanna pop in and see what he has to say.

Map files are easy to make if you know regex. If not then I don't suggest using this method as it can take a lot of work but will give you what you're wanting.

thanks again frequency.

i guess the regex option sounds like this is what i want. googling a bit just brought up your question in another topic regarding this issue... so you can't export a dat with the stripped information. too bad :(. that would make it easy though ...

i will try using the regex otpion. is there somewhere a tutorial on how to do this? i just know how to rebuild sets with clrmamepro but haven't found the set information option yet...

well, i'll keep on looking :)

In the Scanner option look to the bottom left of the Scan Results window and you'll see Set Information. There you'll notice there are check boxes next to each rom. Now where it says Set Selection you can use regex to select the roms you want (i.e. *(USA)* for USA roms depending on the dat). Post the No-Intro dats you're using and I can be more helpful in this area. Then close the window and go to he Rebuilder option and hoping you know how to do this then where it says Source then choose your current rom folder and Destination will be where you wanna be rebuild (Must be another folder). Make sure Remove Matched Sourcefiles is not checked! So that you don't erase your current roms. Very Important! And then simply rebuild. It will then rebuild your sets and clean it up the way you're wanting and will maintain the No-Intro naming convention. If you have any troubles then you can always IM me and I'll guide you through it. Just send me a private message and I'll give you my username. Good luck! Hope it helps.

so... i got it working by selecting only certain roms defined by wildcards inside clrmamepro

but somehow it's weird.... the no-intro romset naming convention seems to have changed since circo is using No-Intro 20080210 ( e.g 8 Eye's (U) ). the new no-intro seems to be like that: 8 Eyes (USA)

all very confusing for me... i think i just keep the habit of renaming circo's snaps and vids to fit adultery's dats

LOL. Looks like we posted at the same time of my directions. LOL. Oh well. Glad you got it figured out. Now we need to figure this one out.

Which system does this refer to?

LOL... thanks for the explanation anyway ;)

this is for the newly released NES snaps collection

Just the snaps? Well looks like Circo is using the naming convention off the 20080210 dat as you explained and the current dat is 20080711. Either way it's gonna take some work unfortunately. I personally wouldn't do it manually. If you know AutoHotKey or AutoIt then you could get creative and do something with those to make things easier using a little logic. Naming them one by one can get tedious.

i'm not really familiar with autoit bu i know some people who can program...

basically i would just need a script to compare the snaps with my roms and get rid of all the roms that don't have snaps (or vids if i purchase the ftp account ;)

Fuzzy Match?

There are a couple of programs for this...one can be found here, called "Fuzzy Match Tool" (or something like that)

...I think it was PimpDaddyStu that posted it, or maybe not.

The second one I found was on the goodtools site (I'm pretty sure) There's a big discussion over there on who's tool is the best, and who stole who's idea...if you find an argument like that, your in the right place.

The computer I have those programs on is offline, but if you can't find what you are looking for, say something, and I'll get it going again.

Also, if the tools work let me know, because I haven't tried them yet!

Nobody can argue with my kind of logic... ;)

thanks tempest, sounds like what i was looking for. i'll try to find it!

i just have the problem that i don't have any old dat files to convert my no-intro nes set (20080712) back to the old naming convention that circo uses (20080210). i wrote circo a pm asking if he considered changing the naming convention to meet new standards but i don't really expect a reply from him... guess he's a quite busy guy

No I'm around, honestly unless I get a volunteer to manage the naming it's probably not going to change anytime soon as there is no easy way I can figure to do it. Here is how I see it - NES Vids, Snaps, Titles, Carts, Boxes, Manuals - all with the same name, so much easier to rename the roms (Copy Paste) than to rename 6 sets worth of files. It is a huge amount of work (HUGE) and if I am doing that then no new content.

But if anyone would like to help..... :)

I could help out Circo. I'm sure I can create something to do it easily instead of manually. PM me if you're interested.

sorry to dig up this old thread... i was just curious if there are any news on the emumovies files.. has anyone tried eg n64 no-intro roms with new naming convention and the emumovie files with best match gameex option enabled?

update:ok i tried it! it worked at first but then i put snaps and titles into the folders (new naming conention) and then the videos didnt play anymore. i used a mass rename tool (joe) and replaced the following:

replace " (U) [!]" with " (USA)" and replace " (U)" with " (USA). now it works for most of the games.
