What's the purpose of the 2 live functions in the mame list? Live MAWS and Live Favorites? I see some games appearing in the list but what can I do with it?

The Maws Hall of Fame is the top Mame games as voted by people on the Maws website. It is dynamic and shows the top Mame games as rated by them.

Check out the Hall of Fame @ http://www.mameworld.net/maws/

The Live favourites on the other hand I believe is favourites of GameEx users as generated by GameEx. I'm not 100% sure if I'm right on that, but that's what I assume it is.

That's what I figured it was. Would it be possible setup something like a "game of the week" within MAME too? It would be awesome if we could use the hiscore dats with that. Then we could play for high scores and have our scores posted to the website. When you bring up the menu within MAME, you could have the first 3 lines or so be the High Scores and the GameEx player's names. Then have the typical MAME details. You could even store a database on the web that lists the previous high scores and games of the week, so you could go back and play previous weeks' games.

But how to turn this feature off? I just noticed that GameEx posted an image of my desktop there on Live!, not just game info.

I've been going through all the options, and simply can't find anything that would block an upload. Who can help me? I consider this a sufficient security risk to immediately throw this program off my PC, in spite of having donated / registered.

I wouldn't consider it a security risk because the low quality image uploaded means noone can read the text on your desktop. So even if you have every password on your system listed in Notepad and a screenshot of it was uploaded noone could read any of it anyway.

But yes we've all had a bit of a chuckle once when someone found a snapshot on Live! of someone watching porn.

BTW When you go through the Setup Wizard is does warn you about the feature. My opinion is it should be disabled by default but this is obviously not the case.

Well, the menu 'GameExtender' isn't exactly the place where I was expecting this option...

And yes, the resolution is low, I know. I just don't like things like this, they should be opt-in, not opt-out. On top of that, I am mightily surprises it's not actually showing the game played, but the desktop, which (IMHO etc.) means it's flawed. So if it's flawed this way, there's no telling how it's flawed in some other way...

Oh well. Perhaps I'm anal retentive.

No I understand your concerns and you have every right to feel that way about your privacy. Tom was infact looking at fixing the "desktop snap" which I consider a bug also. It should only take a screenshot of the GameEx window or game your playing. I'm sure Tom will look at this again, and I'll personally e-mail him about this as a reminder.

I can honestly say that there are no other "flaws" in GameEx. So once you disable the feature to publish to Live! you shouldn't have anything more to worry about as far as your privacy is concerned.

Happy gaming :)

Taken from the License Agreement "All efforts have been taken to ensure this software is stable and safe to run on most systems. However, use of it is at your own risk. It should also be noted that using hardware such as arcade monitors and arcade cabinets can be dangerous."

I can understand concerns with this feature. At the same time does anyone read these things?
