I mentioned this to Tom last week. He included an update in the last version that sounds like it should fix this problem, but I have not tried it yet.

Yeah, I did try it last night and it wasn't fixed. He's aware of the problem I think now, so when Tom gets a chance he will hopefully take a look.

if tom is reading this im not trying to get his attention to fix this ,as he probably has a lot to do but it does bug me a bit,,

it does appear that when i press button 10 it works fine wich is usually assigned to start button and button 1 works fine to but any other exits the emuator,,i definatly know if you hit a curtain button it exits,,so it must be an input problem

You got me. All I know is that I have never been able to get it to work. I'm content with the way it is now, but it would be nice if it were fixed at some point. Basically, whenever there's time ^_^

To be honest, by the sound of it its doing what it is supposed to do, or at least what I meant it to do. To have GameEx stay in the game you press button 5. Its in the docs.

Maybe I misunderstand, its that not working?

EDIT: Thats zero based button 5, so could be button 6

Maybe that's why I'm having a problem! I use a GP-Wiz, so I'm not sending '5', I'm sending button 21. I suppose I could have an AHK script to help out, but is it possible to make this feature gamepad friendly?

I can make it check for button 21 no problem. What are the standard credit buttons on the GP-WIZ?

Also specify if your starting from 1 or 0.

Ill add support for it.

EDIT: Its already gamepad friendly, it checks for 5 and 6 on the keyboard and button 6 on the gamepad. Take me like 5 minutes to add support for GP-WIZ

Would it be to difficult to just add a Start game out of screensaver mode button option in the configuration? IE: select the option and then just press the button on your control panel that you want to use. Then it wouldn't matter what hardware or config an individual had. Just an idea.

I might have to, as GP-Wiz layout does not seem to conform to any kind of standard layout.

I did a google, and most of the hits came from this forum :)

Yeah, there is no standard layout for the GP-Wiz. In my case, I have buttons 21 and 23 (as I recall) set for P1Coin and P2Coin. Other people might have a 4 player CP where button 6, 12, 18, and 24 are credit though. It's completely user configurable as the buttons are just that...buttons.

Perhaps just making a setting where button 6 (the default control) could be changed to some other button(s). If not, I suppose just making an AHK script to send that button would be possible, but it requires a bit of overhead somewhat unnecessarily.

From what I can tell, buttons 1-8 are directional, or labelled as such on the connector? Perhaps I could check for buttons above 8?

to be honest, I really hate adding new configuration settings, unless there absolutely really is no other way.

Actually, the GP-Wiz has 4 direction inputs (basically a D-pad) and 32 button inputs. What they are used for is completely up to the end user.

RandyT at GroovyGameGear.com just changed the board. I think the labels he put on there now are a bit confusing since the board doesn't send anything but direction and buttons 1-32. These need to be used with a 3rd party program to send keypresses (Joy2Key or XPadder). I ordered a new controller from him yesterday, so I will know better within a couple days. However, I can attest that the older controller design did work the way I described above and I don't get the impression from talking with him that anything has changed.

EDIT: Actually, I think the reason those labels exist is that the same board is used for all of his controllers. So for the Key-Wiz, these labels are accurate.

is there not a way you could have an option to set the screensaver to exit only via the escape key,

as i dont see the need for all but 5-6 buttons to exit as people who come in to play the machine dont know

how to play the screensaver games as i am not always here to tell them

I'm thinking that the most obvious (especially for people who don't know GameEx) would be to have the game exit only on escape or a single button that is the standard CP exit button. I've had people come over and when a game they wanted to play popped up, they hit some buttons and it exited (then they turned to me and said "WTF!"). When they didn't want to play, they either asked "how do I quit this thing?" or just mashed on the quit button. If it was just a single key that exited, then it would be a single configuration item in the settings. Anyway, that's just my thoughts as to an easy way to get it set up in a logical way. Thanks!

well put,

thats exactly what i would like,

just to make it easier for friends that come over,

Come to think of it, there may not be a need to have any support for exiting afterall with a gamepad. Here's what I'm thinking...

MAME: If the screensaver starts and someone decides to try the game, let them play without quiting on any button press. If the person doesn't want to play that game, they will try to hit the exit/quit button anyway, so just let MAME exit the way it normally does.

Emulators: As long as you still can detect the exit key/key combo set up in the advanced config, there is no problem. Basically do the same thing as MAME so if they hit exit, do it. Otherwise let it play.
