Can't Get GameEx to Display Custom Backgrounds in Emulators

I have created several custom backgrounds in PNG format for GameEx and I have tried to apply them to several of my emulators. The custom background appears in the dropdown and I select it, but when I launch GameEx, the standard theme's background displays instead. Is there anything that could be causing my custom backgrounds not to display?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

This should work, so Ill look into it. All I can think is its because you may need to set the backround images actually in the theme editor if its a v2 theme.

Give that a go, and please let me know how it works out.

Hmm... I'm using the "My Games for MCE - Widescreen" theme, and I added the following to the theme.ini:

[Emulator_2]

CustomBackground=scdart.png

and it's still not showing up... however, I looked at my GameEx log, and this is what I found:

By looking at the log, it appears to have found the background image since it does not say it doesn't exist like the others, but for some reason, it just doesn't seem to be doing anything with it. :huh:

hmm, not really sure right now. Let me check it out here, and see what I find. Could you please post the full log though?

VT:

I know this is going to sound crazy, but will you create yourself a SNAP path for emulator #2 and see if the background comes up for it? You can just make an empty folder and point GameEx at it. Just go with me on this one... I got a hunch. :)

Of course, while you're doing that make sure you have set the custom background as well, save it and exit.

I finally got a chance to set the snap path... I also set the other paths as well to fix the "Path not found" errors, but I still am not getting the custom background to come up :(

For me, these both show the snap path for some reason in my log... I thought I was maybe on to something there.

Can you try using another theme? Valhalla maybe? See if the same problems persist.

I just tried it with Valhalla Final and Custom V2 Default to no avail. :(

Are the backgrounds which came with 'my games mce' theme working? Try setting 'n64.png' as your background in the theme.ini

[Emulator_2]
CustomBackground=N64.png

It may be something to do with the way you have made your backgrounds like 'scdart.png', did you rename a jpg to png?

Nope, no custom backgrounds are working... I tried several of the included backgrounds. I also installed a test copy of GameEx on another computer and attempted to load scdart.png as the background, it worked correctly. I think there has to be something in my main configuration file that's preventing it from working (since this issue exists regardless of the theme I choose, and the fact the image works in a different install of GameEx). Unfortunately, I have no idea what I could have in the main config file that's causing it not to work...

Zip and Post your GameEx.ini and I'll try and duplicate the issue here.

I just figured it out... I had the "Advanced Graphics" option disabled, this option controls loading custom backgrounds.

good job man, tinkering with it definitely pays the bills.
