Didn't find this answered in the FAQ:

Is it recommended to use MAME32 or command-line MAME with GameEx? I have a new HP running XP MCE and AMD 64 dual core chips. No worries using an optimized build with GameEx either, yes?

Makes no difference. All will work fine.

Different builds have some extra features, like autofire and such. I think ZetaMame32 has some kind of speed hack though.

man this question is OLD and should be standard somewhere in a FAQ or something! Not to say it is a stupid question as everyone has asked it at some point.

There is no difference! The ONLY difference is that when run with no command line arguments, MAME32 presents a GUI whereas MAME would just show help options or something. They play the games EXACTLY the same way. I prefer MAME32 because I get a nice menu where I can choose all my settings, but it is only a preference. There are however other builds where people take the mame source code (free!) and add their own optimizations and distribute it under other names. For example there are builds that have some optimizations for specific processors. They will allow you a FEW extra FPS on some games. As for working with GameEx, pick whichever one you want!

All,

The FAQ pinned topic in the forum is now open if anyone wanted to post suggestions for adding new ones.

This should obviously be in there and ill add it, but feel free to help me out :)

Cheers.

Thanks for the answers and not telling me it's a stupid question. I figured it just HAD to be there in the FAQ and I must have been missing something. Blame it on a years-long MacMAME user who's just now getting into using a PC to run a cabinet.

Cheers, all. Cheers, Tom.
