Hi everyone,

Has anyone else had trouble updating your game list in MAME and other emulators?

Sometimes in my mame list, when I click "update list" it gets to about 20% then stops and puts me back at the list of games. When this happens, I can see the "please wait" graphic flickering in the background. Also the list will then only go up to the "b" 's.

This also occurs with other emulated games, mostly Nintendo 64, perhaps all of them.

The only way I can get that graphic to stop flickering is to either run a game, then quit back to gameex, or to exit game ex and run it again.

Could this be from a corrupted list? If so, is there any file within gameex I could delete?

Perhaps my file locations to mameinfo.dat, history.dat, mame32.exe, etc... need to be verified? I have checked that one about 10 times already so I don;t think so...

Other times when I click 'update list' , it will update successfully, without making any corrections to the configuration.

This has happened to me in the past. Might be a bug. Not sure. Just go into the config wizard and remove any rom filters.

It's true, I use filters. Mostly for clones, bracketed text and versions. Thanks for the reply, I'll try it and let you know.

Might be a stretch, but what is your monitor set as?? 60, 70 mghz?? You might have to adjust that, or your vitual memory

My monitor is set to 75 Hz,

When I removed the filters the problem went away though (for now). The list now updates like it should every time without stopping at 20%. Since it finishes the update correctly, I haven't seen a flickering 'please wait' graphic.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

I'm having the exact same problem but can't solve it. I went to config and disabled all filters and still the flickering graphic and no update. Is there a way for me to delete the orginal game list and start over? Maybe by clearing it before updatin it will help. thanks.

Filename: GameEx_Roms

Make sure you options are set exactly as described there. Then try and update list.

I've had this problem at least since Version 2 themes first started on the scene. I haven't managed to fix it, so I just ignore it. The list has always updated nicely for me with the exception of MAME.bak flickering. A glitch is what I'd call it...

Just for the sake of argument, what theme are you using? This problem does not happen for me if I use the default theme.

I'm using the NexGen theme. I modified the graphics a bit and changed the location of the text and screenshots.

I really think it has something to do with custom version 2 themes - both of ours are in 1024x768 - don't know if that matters... Tom may want to look into this problem. I'll post screenshots as the error happens if needed.
