Hi there,

First post and have to say what a great frontend it is, I've installed it yesterday and I definetely want to donate once it works fine. I only have to correct one thing. I've got a NBA jam tournament edition cab with a j-pac and a Pentium 3 2.4ghz pc in the back and a Arcade VGA. Windows and Mame32 work both fine. The installation of GameEx went good as well the only thing now is that as soon as I start up GameEx and see the donate screen the colour white has dissapeared and it's then a little bit broken white/green/blue. I've tried to run with the ArcadeVGA and Without but no difference. As soon as I see the donate screen and I tab the windows button on the keyboard it gets all very clear and the white has returned but then GameEx failures with a directx error. I also tried to re-install Directx but that didn't workout as hoped. When I tried to run a few mame games it looks a little bit yellow/green as well so the white has dissapeared there as well. When I run it with Mame32 only so not without a frontend it works perfectly. Further GameEx is really the bomb also with all the features and extra emu's!!!

I hope someone can maybe help me out here.

Many thanks in advance

Regards Wouter

Look in the GameEx Control Panel and check your settings...maybe some thing is set wrong. Maybe check to make sure you have the correct build of .Net framework installed as well.

Some have reported turning OFF "Use Arcade Vga" setting in GameEx.

I've tried it now with the .net framework 1.1 and the 2.0 version and also

turning out the arcadevga in the GameEx cofiguration panel but no luck so far.

Any more advice is much appreciated

Which ones of the themes do you use? Perhaps you've selected a theme that forces a resolution your card can't display? Hope you get it sorted out!

I'm using the standard default, but I also tried other themes with other resolutions ?

I'm not understanding it anymore, because as soon as I'm returning to the standard XP desktop all the colors

are fine again?

Thanks for all the advice

In the gameex config. Under display settings. Is "Don't switch resolutions" on or off?

Is use 16 bit color on or off in gameex?

I tried both option in all sort of combination's but still no luck. The thing is when I'm in GameEx it looks al little bit old style (yellow green blue-ish) so no white and when I alt-tab to my desktop it's all good, so when I then alt-tab back it comes up 1 second good then it goes down and comes up again and gone is the white colour? What am I doing wrong? Nobody ever had this kind of thing before?

Again thanks for all of your help Much appreciated, I really want GameEx to work

Update Direct X? Update Graphics Driver? try uninstall of GameEx and reinstall. Delete all folders and files.

Run GameEx

Close GameEx

Go to the GameEx program group in the start menu

Click on "Log file"

Copy contents and post in this thread

This will make things easier to narrow down your problems. And make sure to take note of any settings that you do after posting your Log file here in case someone can pinpoint your issue.

Edit: Also attach your GameEx.ini (found in CONFIG directory).

Thanks will do when I'm home in about 6 hours from now.

p.s. is Windows 2000 maybe a solution?

If you're using an Arcade VGA card, I don't think changing OS will make any difference with your graphical issues. Are you using the latest drivers for your card? It sounds to me that this has to do with your GameEx configuration as you can run MAME32 and see your Windows desktop without problems.

indeed no problem, should I downsize it to 16 bit and a other resolution?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't an arcade vga card be set to like 640 by 288 or something? Is this the windows resolution of an arcade vga or is this the resolution that changes when a game is started? My arcade vga settings are turned off in my config since I don't have one but the default settings in my config are stretch x 640 stretch y 288. I don't know if this helps you or not but check out your arcade vga settings in the config. This is just a longshot though as I don't see how this would mess up your colors.

Good luck

I don't have an ArcadeVGA card unfortunately, so I'm kinda reaching blindly in the dark here. :) But I assumed that his 640 x 480 was interlaced. I know that arcade monitors can display that resolution so I assumed that was it. Any news on this, wouter?

I've turned 32 to 16 bit, but How do I change the resolution of the Arcade VGA because in the windows settings this is the lowest the choose from? The bit weren't helping because I still have the same problem

In GameEX display settings choose a theme with 640 x 288. This should work, but like I said before, I don't own an ArcadeVGA.

Have you tried installing Ultimarc's Quickrez? http://www.ultimarc.com/quickres.exe

Install it, put a shortcut in your autostart folder on your start menu. Then click on the icon that looks like a Galaga ship in your system tray to choose from the supported video modes for your ArcadeVGA.

Also, make sure that you've installed it correctly -> http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html (See Windows XP installation a bit down on that page).

Re-installed the driver and the galaga ship was already there, I first tried with a 640X288 theme but also other themes are working perfectly now :-) So I was just following the instructions from the beginning again.

I'm totally happy because I think it's the best frontend on the market!!!!!!!

Many thanks again for all the help!
