hi everyone i have a cab with mame and coin mech attached, would there be any way of adding a feature to enable a money insert coin in GameEx it's self, i know mame has it for each game so can be used for that, but would'nt it be great if we could use credits for all our emu's as well like zsnes,

for example you put 10 p in coin mech and GameEx displays it on screen and will let you go through games list in say snes and will only let you play a game if you have enough credits

just a thought

Unfortunately this is a feature that will not be available in GameEx period. I released a util called CoinDrop which allowed you to drop coins in at anytime and it would allow you to pass them over to multiple games in Mame. This program is no longer available for download because it caused too much of an issue with the community including Mame developers. Please don't bother asking me for it either!

The problem is that people can abuse this type of software for commercial use, in a "multiple game" arcade machine that works using real credits. It's been discussed before and I can assure you it won't be a feature introduced into GameEx.

What exactly did this util do? Just press ie.(#5 button) for credits?

Basically it was a program that ran in memory and allowed you to press your credit buttons outside Mame and it would count the credits. Then in Mame if you pressed the Start P1 or P2 keys my program would drop a coin in then press the start key. If you put in credits during a game my program would count them, and say you had 3 credits dropped without using them, you could exit the game and start another one and those 3 credits would be available by pressing the P1 or P2 start keys again. It just counts coins all the time and allows you to carry them over to multiple games.

that would be fun to use at home but i see why you dont make it anymore

Do some looking around one the net. I've seen alot of people actually hook up cherry switches to the coin mech slot so when a coin is put in it ends up acting just like you hitting a button to "coin in."

applying the cherry switch on the coindoor to your other emulator's start buttons should be a ghetto enough way to do it. they obviously wouldn't carry over between games, but it is one easy way to do it. you may want to assign a button to start also, or else you'll be inserting a coin to pause lol.

I think my friends would STOP coming over if I installed a coin machine

Or maybe I should get a TOKEN dispencer - 5 tokens for a buck, 30 tokens for 5 bucks...

...just like to the good ol daze

haha, i wouldn't apply this feature anyway. i'm not trying to make money, just tryin to help out this guy. i do have a coin door, with the switches wired to activate credits when a quarter is inserted, but there is also a credit button... i did it more or less to try and have it be as real a cabinet as possible, but have the credit button so quarters aren't necesarily required.

**hey wouldn't it be cool if there was a place you can design custom tokens?!?

I put a working coin mech on my cab and it works in MAME like pressing #5/#6. I just put it in so it would make the machine more arcade-like and actually use it as a bank. Whenever I get quarters, I drop em in; wether I am playing or not.

I really like the sound of the working mech... something lost in most arcades now-a-days with the credit swipe readers and what not.
