Hi everyone -

I'm new to GameEx - just installed it yesterday and am having problems with getting the program to display on the secondary monitor (TV) with MCE 2005 in Dual View.

I've set GameEx in the configuration file to have "Display on Secondary Display" as "Yes". It didn't want to work at first - kept putting the software up on the monitor instead of the TV. Then I switched back to a single view with one monitor and switched it back so that the monitor was the primary display and the TV was the secondary. This time GameEx opened the "wait" screen and then froze after a general exception... a series of them, actually.

Anyone have any ideas about how i can get this to work?

Posted

lemme try, i have a dual monitor option, but only use it as a tv out for my cabinet.

do you mean dual as in clone? like having it displayed on both, or dualview as in dragging the mouse over to the other monitor?

Posted
log?

no - not a clone display... a dual desktop, each with it's own properties and display.

here's the log of the error i get when trying to force GameEx to the secondary display (the TV).

fyi - since i'm still trying out this software, i only have it linked to one N64 emulator - no MAME or anything else.

Try telling GameEx not to change resolution. What resolutions are the displays running at?

right now i have my primary monitor (desktop) at 1024x768 and the secondary (TV) at 720x480.

let me try that and see what happens.

if it doesn't work, i'll try setting it to 640x480 too.

Posted

interesting - the same thing happened, but now i get a different log file. (below)

i set GameEx to not change resolutions, and set the standard resolution to 720x480.

when i select "My Games" and press the OK button, there's a pause, then MCE shuts down on my secondary display and the "splash" screen for GameEx pops up on my primary display. then, after the wait period, the splash screen disappears and the error log pops up on my primary display, at which point MCE restarts itself on the secondary display.

i'll try changing the resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 and see if i can get different results.

here's the log file...

ok, so i tried three different resolutions, both with GameEx set to change the screen resolution and not to change the resolution. no luck.

if i have GameEx default to the primary monitor it does the same thing, unless MCE is also running on the primary monitor, in which case it seems to function fine.

i almost wonder if there's a problem with the splash screen, which seems to be forced onto the primary display...?

i know that purchasing the program will get rid of the splash screen, which i will do, but i want to know that the program is going to do what i need it to before i spend money on it.

if it isn't the splash screen, then i don't have a clue what could be the issue...

The splash screen is still there in the registered version, it just only shows for a second. I cant troubleshoot your problem, as I dont have this kind of setup. I do know that someone else had this problem a couple of months back, and there was a thread detailing how to get GameEx to do this, I think with MultiMon.

Please try and find that post. As I said I cant help any further with this, as Im not able to duplicate the scenario, but it sounds like theres a bug somewhere in GameEx that I need to fix.
