Love it, but can't get it working

i have downloaded and can use gameex on my wifes laptop, however it is not really hers and she will be returning to work with it next week so have attempted to set it up on my ;

P4 Packard Bell Easynote.

however i am getting problems i can't seem to solve,

One of these should fix it

#1 Reinstall/upgrade video driver

#2 Repair DirectX Get it from here

#3 Remove and reinstall Windows Media Player

start-settings-control panel-add/remove programs-windows components

*this should ix a damaged player

*I was messing with WMP and it messed up gameex similar to your message - I needed to restore it for gameex to work again

solved that problem, it was a bad installation of direct x9. thanks for the advice.

now i have a problem with the speed which the emu runs at behind gameex.

i have had to set options to direct draw in mame32 as it wont run fast enough in direct3d or GDI settings.

speed is ok when running mame32 direct but very slow when running from gameex

any ideas?

Reading your original error log says you are utilizing a SiS M661FX is this correct? 64 meg of integrated video? Is this a laptop by chance? Make sure you actually have the full dedicated 64 meg in the bios "shared memory" for the chipset. Secondly, go to the motherboard manufacturer and get the latest video driver. Strangely enough I had ONE game out of 10"House of the Dead 2" was taking a looooong time to load and once I upgraded the video drivers it flew.

yes deadly, it is a lappy, i take it i have to go into bios to get the 64 meg dedicated?

Beings as I do not have the laptop accesible to me all I can tell you is in the bios you may or may not have an options labeled "shared memory size". I was hoping I was wrong about it being a "lappy" as there are ATX boards that use that chipset as well. You might call the manufacturer BUT I highly recommend you update the video driver first and if that doesn't work disable anti-virus and or spyware detection programs as a test. They'll tax you system too.

Shared ram Video is a royal pain. You could try making mame et al drop the resolution as well which would remove some of the memory usage by some degree.

the daft thing is that i wanted to use the lappy as a dedicated mame/av-movie-theatre computer as the battery is bolloxed (as per most lappys) my main pc has a high end graphics card that never gets used, and it wont run gameex (it gives errors about fonts not being available, even though they are all installed!) so i am now stuck with a high end pc, and a hi spec (expensive) non working lappy which also wont run properly with gameex. aaarrrgggghhh!!!!!!

no means of changing shared memory, driver is the very latest (double checked and double downloaded etc.), nothing else running (new install of windows) so....... if i go back to my main p.c. the error report i get is thus....

Just to clarify, if you use the GamexConfig app and go to Display Settings and select let's say Arial from the dropdown list for both main font and title font and run GameEx, you get "Arial does not exist"??

What happens if you reinstall Trebuchet MS.
