29th August, 2006 - GameEx 6.70

First off I highly recommend upgrading to this release.

If you installed one of the buggy versions last week it really is a must

Ive removed the load emulators in background scenario and instead implemented really good caching of the emulator lists. This is a hugely better thing, and I'm really pleased with it

The jukebox when used in File Tag mode also now uses hugely better caching techniques, and should load in seconds even when you have 10s of thousands of files (assuming you have not added files)

Fixed font caching issue when switching between full screen and windowed

Fixed Export to MCE putting GameEx in infinite loop

I apologise for all the buggy releases prior to this last week, and thanks for everyones patience, and for everyone who helped test it for me.

I think we really have an optimized GameEx now.

10,000 long emulator lists can load up instantly, massive audio collections to. Returning from emulators and MAME is now snappy, and me personally on my fastest system I can get GameEx to startup in just under 2 seconds. Can't be bad. :)

This is the best release yet. Loads in about 8 seconds for me - and I am beside myself at how fast my Super Nintendo list comes up since it's like 13,000 games. Unbelieveable!!! :)

I don't mind bugs personally when it means something really awesome is on the horizon, and this new version of GameEx is absolutely amazing!

The best $40 I ever spent - it's like getting a gift that gets better and better all the time.

On behalf of emu lovers everywhere - thank you. :)

I don't harp in as much as I should since this progam is a part of my daily routine...so a BIG THANK YOU Tom for making such a wonderful and purpose driven piece of software...truly wonderful!!!

agreed that the loading of the emulators' list and the jukebox have both gone amazingly fast.

It's time to load up my gigs of mp3 files.

The program is certainly swift.

Good news is that I discovered the problem with GameEX on my system. Turns out that I had to disable the intro sound / sound FX. I believe all of my "headaches" from Vista 5472 have been associated with a "bad" audio driver. Now the keyboard functions perfectly fine after each game and no more exception errors.

Thanks, sir. Especially for the jukebox upgrades. I may go back to it instead of MediaMonkey if it's really that fast. I am still crossing my fingers for the folders/files navigation though :)

BUG? Or Feature Limitation?

When I run the "play random game" it works fine on sets that aren't GoodMerged. But those that are, it just launches the EMU without the ROM. When I exit back to GameEx, it shows the rom list from the Merge. I realize this may be a limitation of the program, so is there any chance of getting this feature to extract a merge and then play a random rom from the unzipped list?

Actually a bit of both, in that its a limitation, but bug that GameEx tries to launch goodmerged games. Either way its not to do with this version, but thanks for reminding me.

Heh no problem. I didn't think it was necessarily related to this version, but I didn't think it warranted the creation of a whole new thread for that little question. :) In all and all though, what you have done is far exceeding that which was really required. And for that reason, I'm forever greatful. The program does what it was designed to and more. Thanks!

Ok, so lets get a version made that works with randomly playing goodmerged games. :)
