Hi,

I'm running Mame 107 and GameEx 6.49 and have an ArcadeVGA card.

GameEx is not selecting video mode properly. Using mame on the command line works fine. The resolution is wrong and hwstretch seems to be enabled. Possibly using D3D.

I use ArcadeVGARes.exe to make INI files for each game. these are stored in the default c:\mame\ini path. So all GameEx needs to do it run mame.exe <game>. I don't have any mame command line options specified in GameEx.

Everything worked ok with Mame 106 and GameEx 6.48.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Matt

Read this thread, you may need to add some of the new command line switches.. I think either Category 2 or 3 for your case.

I have already configured mame.ini for -video ddraw -nohws. Adding these options to the GameEx command line fixes the video method but the resolutions are still screwed. Not suprising really because the proper resolution is set in \mame\ini\<gamename.ini>. I suspect GameEx is not reading mame.ini and ini\<gamename.ini> anymore.

It could be an introduced bug, I'm not sure.. here is part of a FAQ on BOYAC regarding this, just double check it's working outside of GameEx, so we can identify if this is a GameEx or Mame issue.

Q: I am using an ArcadeVGA card and the proper screen resolution for the games. What's the problem?

A: First of all generate a mame.ini file for MAME with 'mame -cc' and in the .ini file

You set 'resolution auto', and 'hwstretch 0'. You might need to tweak a few other settings too but that should be good for starters.

If you are using the ArcadeVGARes tool to generate ini's, you need to modify MAMEs 'mame.ini' file (not Mamewah's 'ini\mame.ini') for the following line of the location of where you placed the ini files:

### Windows path and directory options ###

rompath f:\mame32\roms

samplepath f:\mame32\samples

# inipath (not set) <----------------*HERE*

The monitor in my cabinet is rotated for vertical display. I rarely used the desktop so I let GameEx and MAME do the rotation for me. Games worked fine from the command line but not via GameEx. It all broke with the upgrade to GameEx 6.49 and Mame 107. I probably shouldn't have done these at the same time.

Today I used the ATI tool to rotat my desktop 90 degrees and reconfigured GameEx for 640x288. This looks good for vertical monitor and ArcadeVGA. I also disabled the ArcadeVGA option in GameEx as it doesn't seem very useful (even tho I have an ArcadeVGA card!) I also deleted the separate game ini's because they contain -ror option. Mame -resolution auto works quite well which eliminates the need for separate game ini's.

So that is solved but unfortunately, somewhere in all this attract stopped working and something strange is happening during update list, games are missing which should not be. I only recently upgraded from 6.48 to 6.49 and that is when these problems started.

Cheers,

Matt
