I used GameEx for a while and lately all it does is crash.   The last log I got was totally blank.  I was simply exiting a MAME game.   What's worse is when it's automatically showing games, (which I love that feature, it looks really cool) but then I walk away and back  over and see GameEx is sitting with a dialog box up that MAME crashed and  when I click cancel on that box, GameEx return and I can't do anything.  The only resort is to reboot.  Pretty much making this launcher unusable at this point. 

1) can you make it so I can at least launch a task manager and kill the task
2) why is gameex crashing just because MAME crashes?

Hey GoPenguins, welcome to the GameEx forums.  I moved your post to the correct forum in hopes that it will get more input.

It's hard to determine anything without an ini and log, but I understand you're having trouble obtaining a log containing any data.  Still the ini should prove at least somewhat helpful.  There are directions on how to find these in my signature if you need it.

As for a shot in the dark, do you have the LAV filters installed? 

If your version of GameEx is current, then I would download the full installer, and simply run the executable to let it install over itself.

If your using and AMD based GPU, there is a known conflict with the Raptr, Gaming Evolved App.  It causes repeated crashes, if present, uninstall it.

Without seeing any support files (gameex.ini and log.txt) you don't give us much to go with. What version of GameEx are you using? What OS is installed on your PC? What video GPU do you have installed? Have you checked Windows Event Viewer to see what errors it is showing?

Please start by answering these questions and providing the files. Thanks!

Let me clarify a few things.    


1) I'm running Win 10 on intel graphics.

2)  I'm sure it's in the task manager, but I can't bring the task manager forward.   If I ctrl-alt-del and start the task manager, it's launched but GameEx keep bringing itself forward.  If I could have a quick solution to this, where I can easily get to the task manager and kill the process.  

I will grab the supporting logs asap

I've never experienced this problem.  What if you continue to alt>tab until you've selected the task manager screen?

Also, I would suggest you disable touchscreen support

No matter how you attempt to get there GameEx comes to the foreground.  Alt-Tab, Ctrl-Esc and select the task manager from the start bar,  doesn't matter, gameex takes over.   You can see task manager is running, but doesn't help.  Also if you click the x while alt tabbing, that doesn't kill the app, or click close app from the start bar.

I would try disabling the Screensaver in the Setup Wizard completely, as to narrow down some things.

Such as, what are your Power Options in W10? Have you set the screen to turn off after a set amount of time for instance, or have you set HDD's to power/spin down? Do you have power saving options enabled?

All power options have been disabled.  The problem seems to be when exiting MAME.   In screen saver mode when MAME crashes, sometimes GameEx survives, sometimes it comes back with the UI present but no options on the screen.   Even sometimes when I just exit a game in MAME, the same things happens.

Since nobody has asked these questions yet... 

1. Did you compile your own version of MAME or acquire it from another source?

2. What version of MAME?

3. Does the version of your ROMs match the version of MAME you are running?

Tried numerous versions (some I compiled, some just downloaded) currently using 0183 from source (compiled with directinput) and using the -autosave option and yes ROMS match.

Thanks guys for the support, I'm going to switch to another launcher, This one is just way too buggy.  I found one that works to my needs.

Good luck with your new launcher.

It is worth saying though, that what you have described is not normal behavior for GameEx.  I've been using it for years without any of the issues you're describing, and if the problems you were describing were actually widespread bugs, these forums would be overrun with posts pointing that out.

Thanks again for your support, I do like your product but need something that doesn't crash, I will keep an eye watching though
