So I see that the new version of GameEx supports output to an LCD screen. This seems like a killer idea to have a screen that could display the controlls and button mappings for each game that loads up.

My question though is how does one go about setting this up? Is this natively supported in MAME or would there be additional software to set up. Also, does anyone have any experience with these screens? What versions, models work best etc.

Thanks!

There is a version of MAME called PowerMAME that I just found out about that can show, and tell you what the buttons are. It would be cool if GameEx could encorporate the same features. Hers is a link to it PowerMAME. Checkout the demonstration page, espcially Demo number 7.

Hi Mike, its actually supported LCD output for some time, but the the last few updates enhanced it quite a bit. It is completely seperate from MAME, and you can read how to set it all up here: http://tomspeirs.com/gameEx/docs_LCD.htm

I dont have any experience with the screens, but using LCD Smartie which is what GameEx uses to output to a display you can fully test it out, and LCD Smartie is good software which is compatible with most LCD displays. You can of course use a whole monitor for output too with GameExtender.
