What is the most compatible version of MAME, I have the complete set of roms but alot of them do not run.

They just kick back to GameEx.

Try using mame32

MAME32FX is my favorite, a few enhancments over the regular MAME32 and as far as I know it's just as compatible.

If you're using GameEx, try just MAME, since your question was what is MOST compatible. I use MAME32 with no problems in GameEx that I compile from source to match my CPU type.(Not sure if there is a performance difference, but it can't hurt.) You know you can configure GameEx in 'Advanced MAME settings' to only play working games. :) Most of the 'chd' games in MAME aren't playable on my pc, but that still leaves thousands playable. Zinc can be used to play some games better than MAME and is configurable in GameEx. Game list for Zinc is here http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/arcade/zinc.html
