Hi All,

HELP! Just took the nuclear option and used the instant sheller tool. Works a charm until I want to go back to windows. I just get the black screen as detailed in some of the other threads. So I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager. Unfortunately I only get part of the Task Manager window. No File menu item so I can't get it to run explorer.exe.

Anyone got any ideas or am I screwed?

Cheers

you should be able to get new task and run explorer.exe from task manager. or you can configure gameex to run explore.exe on exit (thats what I do). when configured like that, when you exit gameex, it will bring you out into my docs or my computer (something like that) and you should be able to access everything from there.

if you press CTRL- ALT - DEL and run regedit

and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

and alter "shell" to explorer.exe and reboot your pc it will boot up without loading gameex up

if you cant see the menu on task manager try and press alt - f - n

this should bring up run box (worth a try)

Thanks for the info,

None of it worked so I put the XP installation disk in and did a repair. It has got me going again but some aspects of windows are now broken (media player for instance!). A complete re-install is going to be necessary.

SO I have moved anything im portant from my C: drive ready for a complete re-install. Before I do that though I have played around and made GameEx startup my wireless network and firewall using the Launch.bat approach detailed in an earlier post. I put explorer.exe in the config to run on exit but this is where it all went wrong again. When it exited it ran Windows Explorer and not the windows shell. I guess I have the wrong explorer. Can someone tell me the full path to the correct one please?

Thanks

Ian
