Vista Support. Should now run on Vista Beta 2

Dropped support for .net framework 1.0 (not 1.1)

Thanks for the 2 updates Tom. TAB works a treat and I've coughed up again as promised!

Noticed a couple of things on the new release 6.37/6.38:

1. Unless you have both CPEnabled=True & ShowGameInfoPage=True it won't launch any MAME game! (fails silently back to menu). If you have CPEnabled=False & ShowGameInfoPage=False it won't launch any MAME game until you launch another emulator's game (E.g SNES), then it works as expected for MAME games???

2. Launching a MAME game (assuming you've set 1.) the menus crawl away very slowly (even on a P4). I can't remember this before?? If you launch another emulator's game (E.g SNES) the menus go away at the normal (fast) speed??

You might have 'tweaked' something the wrong way somewhere in this area...

Regards

Shaun

Thanks for reporting Shaun, and thanks for the payment. This is fixed in 6.39, now available. It was due to the new functionality in the LCD plug in that shows the controls information.

Thanks again,

Tom

Vista Support. Should now run on Vista Beta 2

Dropped support for .net framework 1.0 (not 1.1)

That's great news Tom.

I'm sure this is just a first "stab" at a Vista compatible version but a couple of questions:

1) Does this mean that we still need to force install and allow .NET framework 1.1 with Vista?

2) If so, will there be a possibility of removing .NET framework 1.1 support in the future?

3) Does this version add a "My Games" to Vista Media Center?

Anyway, great job on a quick update.

Cheers!

Here is your answers.

I've modifed the install to work if only .net framework 2.0 is installed, and the GameEx program configurations have been set to work if only the .net framework 2.0 is installed. Basically from now on GameEx is not reliant on the .net framework 1.1. You don't need to have 1.1 installed anymore as long as 2.0 is installed. So there's no need to remove 1.1 support. 2.0 is backward compatible, but this all meant I had to remove support for 1.0.

So the answers to the first two questions is great. You dont need .net framework 1.1 installed, and GameEx should install and work with just 2.0 installed.

I have not had time to test GameEx on Vista a lot, I'm hoping some folks can tell me what's not working and I added a stickie in the forum for this. I saw that it installed, and ran and that's it.

Thanks,

Tom.

That's good to know because 6.38 still displays the message that .NET Framework 1.1 is needed and cannot run on 2.0 alone. I will post this in the new vista bug section as well.

BUG REPORT

I was reconfiguring my MAME setup, and had to rebuild the game list. When it completed (I was reading GameEx forums at the time) it sat at it's home menu then went into screen saver mode. Only problem, it just opened up the MAME Games list, and randomly jumped to a game and sat there. In this case, it was 2-on-2 Open Ice... then it jumped to another random game in the list, but still stayed on the list. Almost list I was selecting to play a game, but not entering into it. After the 2nd jump, the screen would go black (like it's about to actually load the game) then sit for a few seconds, and return back to the list. It's done that 5 times now, and I haven't pressed anything. I currently have my attract mode set to 1 minute then change every 2 minutes with no videos. I posted a message a few days ago about the screensaver not behaving correctly. This is just another example. The new bug this time is that it will either open a blank screen then return to list, or it will just jump to a random entry in the list and not start it.

Tom, please check into this.
