so i find this gameex donation-ware,

read that its a free mce mame frontend

(cool-gotta try that)

screw around like 1 hours to make it work, kinda succeed:

gameex starts, but no games (roms) are found through gameex (yes i have it configurated)

my actual mame32 works, finds em (and plays them too) but so far,

thats what i get...i can at least seegameex menu when i start the mce...on my pc...

(btw, why in heaven would i want to play through mce on pc, when mame is already on my pc?)

...dunno, u tell me...

so suddenly i fear, doubt, and go to my living room & access my windows media center from my 360:

"my games" ain't even showing !

whereas my question:

eeeeeh not showing on 360?

:)

The majority of us here, have our PC's connected to our TV's or arcade cabinets and not going through what in my opinion is a poor substitute such as an XBox 360.

If you want to do this on a console wait a couple of years for it to be even remotely feesible, if you want help setting up GameEx on a PC, ask a question orientated around that.

Add to that the fact that I have had nothing but trouble with my network that just happens to have an XBOX 360 on it, I got a MAME cab that runs GameEx better than any other front end I've come acrossed. Your XBOX 360 does a great job of being an XBOX 360. Isn't that good enough? :)

For your MAME cab needs (especially if you want it to double as a jukebox which is pretty flippin' awesome) there's no better Front End anywhere! And believe me... I've tried them all. :)

wow... eeeeh ok...I regretted being cynical and came back here to excuse myself as i see thoses totally retarded replies ????

A few things before i never come back here:

Tom,

Came here for app announced as an MCE front end, not a "PC & TV" or "cabinet" project front end.

MCE is sold as a product useable BOTH from a PC or a 360, so unless gameex works on both it shouldnt be announced as a MCE plugin, but a PC Front end. I dont care if its free or not, i dont care if it half works on MCE, Youre wasting my time, and wont get me recommending your app to my friends by misleading me.

My 360 ( +4 other PCs ) on a firewalled WIFI/LAN network are swiftly letting listen to music, watch video and TV shows on my LCD HD TV ( without any PC near it in the living room) and it works well.

Poor substituting ? yeah, see i disagree. No fan noise by my sound system or TV cuz...no PC ! wow !

feesible ? hey the future is here ! have you heard ? were in 2006 !

Adultery,

R.T.F.M. if you have network problems, dont blame the 360. My G network flies, your knowledges sucks.

Did you see the ittle green button on the remote? its a MCE is a 360 feature! who would have guessed!

WTF are you talking to me about cabinet projects? im talking about 360 and MCE!

here's the lesson of the day: orange and apples!

Tom, You can delete my account, and this forum topic, at least you did read me? thanks. Good luck with gameex.

I was referring to GameEx and my 360 on the same network. No need to act like a 3rd grader dude.

Sorry if I offended you in any way... I was just trying to be helpful.

There's a thousand people here who love abd use GameEx, and I apologize if it doesn't suit your needs. There's no reason for you to talk about what GameEx isn't, since it's great for what it is.

PS - Ignorance = bliss. Just for the record. :)

All stupidity and flaming aside, I think you misunderstand the purpose of GameEx reminator. Allow me to explain it.

GameEx is a frontend MCE replacement. It's original purpose is to provide an enduser with an easy access to mutiple emulators from which they can view from their couch and control with a remote. It's design is based loosely on MCE. It has menus, etc. The HTPC aspect of the program is secondary to it's main purpose of gaming. Now, given that information, if you only use MAME, then it's perfectly plausable that you would rather use MAME's own mame32gui for a front end. The ability, however, to use the gui is limited to that machine only (until the programmers of MAME decide to create a 360 plugin). What GameEx does, is not only contain a 360 fronted for MAME, but support anything a user would want to have access to. Be it other emulators, movies, music, videos, news, weather, etc. The fact that it is "announced as an MCE plugin" is because it can be installed to have a launch option from both the MCE start menu and the MCE's more programs. Yes, it is a PC frontend. And many people have taken the time to shell directly to GameEx and bypass windows and MCE completely. This is fine too. I use it as an MCE plugin. When I want to play games, I launch GameEx from within MCE. When I want to do other HTPC stuff, I exit GameEx and MCE opens back up. What you are looking to do is completely possible. You may just have some configuration problems that need sorted out. I don't have a 360 to play around with this with, but the programming is there. Nobody was meaning to be rude. The idea of cabinets is that GameEx has become such a popular Emulator frontend, that people have built from scratch or refurbished arcade cabinets, and use GameEx for those machines.

Now lets take a look at Toms post... He talks of the majority of people using GameEx on PCs connected to TV's or arcade cabinets, and the fact that an XBOX360 version is unfeesable. He's not specifically saying what it is that he was referring to, but if you look at it, you can clearly see that he wasn't exactly on target with your general question of "why isn't gameex showing on my MCE screen when i look through the 360?" Am I right in assuming this was your question? Now Tom's answer was more a detour to what he may of thought your question being of "how can i get gameex on my 360".

Adultery's comment was to basically give props to GameEx for being such a good frontend program. He's having trouble getting his 360 to work on his network. He is merely commenting on GameEx, not necessarily being directed to you. The comment about 360 working as a 360 was merely to show you that even if you can't get it to work, you still have a nice machine as it is.

Now for your reply. I can completely understand your frustration. Apparently nobody replied to your question, and gave you an answer not entirely related to your thread. I'm sorry this happened. If you spend a little more time exploring the forum, you'll see that a LOT of people here are very helpful and want to help. Tom being one of the best because it's his program, his baby.

I am, regretfully, unable to answer your question either. The reason, as said previously, is because I don't have a 360 to expirement with. If I did, you know I'd be jumping on the oppertunity to play games through GameEx on it. The thing you have to remember though, is that until 360 programming becomes more widly available, and GameEx expands itself to further multi-platform languages, you'll have to stream data from a computer; over your network; to your xbox 360 extender.

I hope this attempt at calming down your frustration was succesful. Again I do apologize that I'm not personally able to help you, and I hope you stay and work with us. You should be able to get GameEx running, and playing through your 360 extender with no problem. It just takes time, effort, and patience. Ask around, read other topics, and familiarize yourself with the program first. We're all here to help others and get help ourselves.

Actually, and I think everyone here would agree its you who are ignorant, but I can understand your obviously just a young lad.

I dont delete topics or accounts if people are just giving there opinion, as long as there not abusive or upset people. Your bordering on that, but I am very tollerent and like discussion, although prefer it to be adult based even though we are all big kids here.

When I say your ignorant, if youd have done a little research youd realise that MAME itself does not run on an XBOX 360, in fact theres only one emulator available anywhere that does.

It's amazing how ironic some people can be, especially the ignorant ones!

As Tom mentioned the XBOX 360 is an extender and therefore it operates as one using Remote Desktop streaming. It is impossible to stream DirectX games at a decent speed (go ahead give it a try), so even if GameEx was designed to work on an extender, the games and emulators wouldn't work anyway. If you knew anything about MCE development (which clearly you don't) you would realise that these limitations may still even be present in Vista's MCE edition. That said, it's unlikely you will be able to run any games through an extender for the foreseeable future. Next time do a bit of reasearch before you mouth off about something you know nothing about!

Wow! Where did that come from?? Obviously, we are dealing with someone who is not trying to capture a bit of the past, along with adding great present features. Why in the world you would want to use this for anything other than a cab or pc is beyond me. The xbox mame people, at their best, are a wacky group. And when you try to run MAME on the xbox, you get what you get. That being said, this is still the best thing out there, hands down! Probably this guy did not take the time to explore all the possibilities GAMEEX has to offer...the rest of us know what this thing is and I personally thank you Tom for all your continued efforts into this great product!

well bugger him!

dont think we need that kinda 'tude in this kind friendly place of "big kids" good riddance i say! and Tom definatley doesnt need flaming for this fantastic product he brought into the world! (GOOD ON YA TOM!!!!!!)

For the record, i have xbox360 connected to the same network as the cab and everything else i own. not a damn thing wrong with it! if i wanna try mame on my tv in the lounge, ill just boot up my xbox1 and play it on that thing. (which also seems to work fine as a media center on its own)

so yeah hooroo reminator and have fun in primary school buddy! watch out for grade 3 maths, its a dooozy

"knowledges" and "need your infos" is enough to tell me we are dealing with an elite haxor here. Either that or he has a horrible lisp that extends right into his typing.

Heh I hate those kinda people. I'm bad enough with lol's and stuff.

[edit]

oh yeah, can't forget the smileys :) :) :)

I'm obviously doing something right if you all jump to the defence. I appreciate that guys. Thanks again for the support.

Going to lock this thread now.

Thanks,

Tom.
