I cant seem to leave well enough alone, just because Zinc exists i want to enable it and get it going on my cab.

My question is this. Under the Zinc (Playstation) menu it shows no games listed. Are zinc roms different then Mame roms? I figured, in the case of tekken for example, it would simply load the tekken rom in my mame directory. Do I need to get specific Zinc roms and place them in my mamedirectory instead?

I managed to solve this by searching through the archives and finding I juts needed to update my game list.

This fixed the game list problems, however starting a game just drops me back into gameex.

I checked the log and this is what GameEx is trying to do:

Running: cmd.exe /c D: D:\Emulation\Zinc\Zinc\zinc.exe 45 --roms-directory=D:\Emulation\Arcade\roms --renderer=.\renderer.znc

I'm guessing the 45 is telling it what game to start.

The only thing I can figure is that the game renderer option is all wrong.

Edit number 2: It would have helped if I had eevn downloaded a renderer.... Let my mishaps be a warning to all whom come after me! (or at least as long as this post is on the front page)

Zinc isn't the easiest thing to set up. It certainly isn't a matter of downloading and it works, like you've just figured you have to download a renderer also. Another issue you will undoubtedly encounter is mapping the keys. You need to download a GUI for that also which is another separate download.

Actually, i downloaded the controller plugin and just setup the hex values for each control scheme. Seems to have worked fine for me.

I have winterblast's plugin as well but I'm a little unsure how to use it. The plugin seems to create a controller config file for each game. Do I need to copy and paste those into one default controller.cfg file and then have GameEx point to that?

Also, as a side note... how hard would it be to add controller setup functionality inside GameEx itself?

Thanks in advance!

I just created one controller config file, and zinc references it everytime I boot any zinc game.

Since S11 and ZN1 controls dont overlap buttons, I just created one section that looks like this:

[player1]

;example for S11 and ZN1 player 1 with IPAC4

;useMM=1 ;allow player 1 to use WinMM joystick instead of DirectX

coin=k06

start=k02

right=kcd

left=kcb

down=kd0

up=kc8

btn1=k2c

btn2=k2d

btn3=kc9

btn4=k39

btn5=k2e

btn6=kd1

btn9=k2c

btn10=k2d

btn11=kc9

btn12=k39

btn13=k2e

;c1=j1b7

;c2=j1b8

Butons 1-6 are used if its a ZN1 game and 9-13 are usedif it's a System11 game. notice Button 1 and Button 9 are mapped to the same button, same with 2/10 - 3/12, etc etc.

I havevent bothered with RZ or KN (i dont know what they stand for or apply to, but since they both use combinations of buttosn 1-3, I figure this defines them as well.

Thanks for the help.... I finally got it all working!

It's amazing how much better Zinc runs those games over MAME. Almost all of the games are playable now.
