Not sure what that could be. Could you try unplugging your pindmd to see if that is the issue?

Yes, I will try tomorrow

I did notice that PinMAME DMD previews display now with DirectDraw on. It would be nice to have the option to turn DirectDraw off. DirectDraw on allows the user to scale the display, but introduces artifacts like tiling and banding because the size of the pixels and/or the gaps between pixels are no longer uniform. Turning on DirectDraw also decreases system performance although that may be much less of a concern with VP supporting DX9.

It's not a huge deal in the scheme of things as the DMD looks great during play, but if you want feedback then there it is. Still love having PinMAME-based previews. It's been about a couple of hours since I've seen a crash. Crashed twice after installation and then no issues since then.

I couldn't leave it alone. If I have to scale the display, then I'll have to tweak the DMD position in the Display Settings dialog in order to reduce scaling artifacts. I'm using a 16:9 aspect ratio display for a third screen. I'm running a custom resolution 768 x 432. I've found that setting the DMD to width 777 and height 199 appears to result in less distortion. Better than it was anyway. I know that the width is longer than my defined resolution width. I have a very slim bezel on the backglass screen that allows me to shift into the backglass space just a little bit without it showing up on the display. I set a starting X position at -2.

Good enough, but not quite as good as yesterday's RCs that did not engage ddraw. But I'm guessing that it caused other problems. There are probably very few people who would want ddraw off because they are needing to fit into a DMD panel. Those with real DMD don't have this issue at all.

Try turning off full screen windowed (with PinMAME disabled). You deffinitly wont see the desktop as its exclusive.

@Tom,

Thanks for your help.

I disconnected almost everything on USB:

  • PinDMD
  • I-PAC2 key controller
  • Nanotech plunger
leaving only Logitech K260 wireless keyboard/mouse on USB.

VpinMAMELauncher crashes then, obviously because of missing PinDMD -> I had to disable PinMAME setting "Use PinDMD" in the ROM enabled tables and enabled PinMAME display on screen #1

Lost keystrokes dissappeared, but I did expect this because vPinMameLauncher had much less to do now (no communication process load with PinDMD)

But I still get this wandering around cursor focus on the desktop icons and "Bing" when pressing "E"

I'm not sure if this is by design of PBX, when left/right keys are changed to cursor keys.

Could you please do a test on your site ? (I don't want to chase a phantom ...)

Please also have a look on my video and description in post #114 http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/14859-real-pinmame-dmd-in-pinballx-beta-attached/page-6#entry129267

Thank you.

If your getting a BSOD its likely some other issue.

PS: That's not a helpful report either.

Ive tested on three PCs in various configurations and I just don't have any issues. Ive uploaded another version anyway.

The stable 1.85 is fine, on all yesterday and no issues. The beta from earlier ran fine too (EDIT unstable on my system too). I've only just got my cab up and running so I'm behind with what info you need, I checked the log and everything started fine.

Update

I'll stay at 1.85, smooth as can be for me :)

I'll let you guys who know what you're doing try out the betas.

@Tom

You were right about "another issue", it was the first sign of a memory module going bad. I set the software side up 2 months ago and everything was running fine, this past weekend I finally installed it into my cab. It was played for hours on Saturday by numerous people and not 1 issue so I (wrongly) assumed your beta was at fault when my system jacked up. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions, please accept my apology :)

No worries buddy. Thanks for testing the Beta.

Hi Sigma,

I think this is something that is more just affecting you only. Please confirm you have no issues with PinMAME support turned off. Also please ensure the PC has been booted up for at least ten minutes.

There are some changes in the Beta which could affect input but not in the above scenario.

Cheers.

Tom.

I think PinballX is heading for version 2.

Exciting stuff!.

The latest and greatest build runs as smooth as butter for me here, with one exception - the long press to exit feature has no effect when enabled?.

One issue I had yesterday that may be completely unrelated to PinballX is that I lost audio with the AFM rom and only that rom.

This meant that any table I tried that used that rom was silent both from within PinballX and when started outside also.

To fix this I removed the rom entry from the registry and bam it`s back?.

Like I say this may not be relevant at all but could the way the rom is muted in the front end have this effect?.

I know this is the wrong thread but as you are adding features tom ,would it be possible to have more than ten custom systems, or the ability to lauch shortcuts like GameEx?.

H again Sigma,

I attach an exe only that removes the input affecting changes so you can compare with the current stable release. I think you have some kind of other issue like a key held down or something.

Thanks, I will try it.

Hi Tom,

thanks a lot for your special test exe.

But no, unfortunately this also doesn't change behaviour.

So it's not the problem of your input affecting changes.

I looks like that I'm the only one with this problem of lost left/right keystrokes, but I still think the root cause is my changed key mapping for left/right keys to "Cursor left" and "Cursor right" in PBX config.

I haven't seen that anybody else uses those keycodes or has made a test with this configuration.

I will not hinder the new release anymore and I will go back now to the standard keycode mapping "LShift" and "RShift", seems to be my only solution.

But I still have one additional wish regarding Game List Manager:

Would it be possible to have an entry e.g. <No ROM> in the select list of ROMs, so the ROM entry in the XML would be deleted ?

Up to now I see the only possibility for removing by editing the XML.

Yes. I have added a clear button.

I can confirm lost sound with AFM. I just had to open up the Settings dialog and check Use Sounds. Fixed it.

Ive been testing quite a lot with cursor keys and don't see any issues here.
