Ya know I was thinking about this a bit more ... and there is another option. You could always burn your ISOs to physical media, and play them directly from disc (as delineated here). Not only to you forego some extra loading time, but you afford a certain "old school charm" in terms of manually loading game discs. (OTOH the physical space necessary for such a setup might become an issue, so naturally YMMV)

I like this idea. But as crazy as it sounds I don't have a DVD burner lol. It actually took GameEx way less time to extract my ISOs than 7zip does somehow... took less than 20 seconds to get After Burner 3 on the Sega CD to decompress (its a 500MB game extracted). So personally I think I can deal with that! Will test further with bigger games. and post my results

I compressed vagrant story for the PS1 and it went from 780MB to less than 70MB! But when I test the game out it doesn't play. It says wait for a little while and then epsxe loads but nothing comes up on screen. and I give it a couple minutes to load before exiting just in case its just taking a long time, but to no avail.

EDIT: I changed my filter from MDF to MDS and the game loaded up then

Driver 2 was 642MB uncompressed and when compressed its 343MB and it decompresses with 7zip in 48.94 seconds GameEx does it in 27.70 seconds! Maybe I can put up with it, thats really no time at all to wait.

I can easily distract my friends with something. I usually have something to say about the game before we play it. So now I just have allotted time to do so.
