I have been having this problem where any Steam game will minimize and go back to GameEx after ~1 minute of running. Nothing else is running on the machine except GameEx and Steam and it only happens on Steam games while GameEx is launching them. Anyone else ever have this issue? SNES emulated games are running flawlessly.

Here is what I pulled from the log file:

Hi Vlad

I'm guessing this is most likely related to a specific set of Steam games that require a special config in GameEx. You can find these configs in the \GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\CONFIGS directory. For example the game Star Wars: Dark Forces (AppID: 32400) is actually run via DOSBox in Steam. So in the GameEx config for that game (32400.ini) you would need to add the following line:

overidewaitprocess=dosbox

This way GameEx knows that it's actually the running DOSBox process that indicates that the game is still running (rather than the game launcher or whatever else). Otherwise GameEx doesn't "know" that the game is still running and will return to the frontend as you describe.

Unfortunately it's necessary to deal with these games on a case by case basis. What specific games are giving you issues?

Hello nullPointer,

Thanks for the quick reply. I see your example (32400.ini) in the Steam/Configs folder. The games I have installed are:

Divekick

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition

The King of Fighters XIII Steam Edition

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Street Fighter X Tekken

Do you know how to find the ID number (32400), and how do you tell what Steam is using to run the game?

Probably the easiest way is to look at the URL on the Steam store for the game in question. So continuing the example above, the URL for Star Wars: Dark Forces is:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/32400/

I was hoping I had a few of these games installed so that I could do some cross testing, but unfortunately I do not. Based on these games though I'm not sure that the problem you're experiencing is related to the issue I described above. Normally a config is typically related to games requiring DOSBox, Java, or a similar "unknown" process. The list you provided looks like it consists primarily of regular ol' DirectX games (not sure about Divekick).

Would you mind recreating the problem on your system and posting the contents of your GameEx log after having done so? Thanks man!

Okay I believe you solved most of my problem. I found the AppID by removing all of the .ini's that were current dated, then re ran Injustice and saw that it created its AppID (242700). Searching for overridewaitprocess brought me to a thread in this forum where you recommended someone use their exe. Tried it first with Injustice.exe then Injustice.exe *32 and failed. Tried with steam and it worked...but GameEx wouldn't re-run because Steam never technically closes. So I changed the ini to read Injustice, tested good and on exit it would bring me to desktop but after a few seconds GameEx would relaunch where I left off. I can't test the others right now but I am pretty darn sure this will fix the problem. Thanks a bunch!
