Its normal for the password to change as it gets encrypted as soon as you launch GameEx. Can you post the log file please. Is GameEx properly registered? All I can think right now is it is not or there is an issue with registration.

Hi millzy123 and Welcome to the GameEx forums!

That's awesome that you've embarked on the adventure of building an arcade cab. Regarding Steam there is one line I would expect to see in your config that I cannot find. In the Steam section:

[steam]LaunchBefore=LaunchAfter=

I would expect to see the following line there as well, but it's not there:

Enabled=True

Please post a copy of your log after starting GameEx as it may contain some additional info on your setup. As far as spoiler tags go,. just copy the following snippet and put your contents in between the tags:
YOUR STUFF HERE
In terms of your password the number of characters displayed in GameEx is not representative of your actual password. GameEx encrypts your password so what your are seeing is probably the number of encrypted characters rather than the number of actual characters in your password. Storing passwords as plain text is bad mmm-kay. :lol:

One other note - if you already have Steam running (and you plan to have this as your normal setup - i.e. Steam runs at Windows startup or something), there is no need to configure GameEx to start Steam and login. Presumably you are already logged in. I would disable automatic login and logout if you plan to have Steam running anyway.

Good luck, and we'll see if we can spot anything else when you post your log.

Im guessing my problem is the "9:22:59.4 5/2/2014: Did not find any Steam games" Ill double check that the games are installed

Let us know what you discover, but yes Steam functionality in GameEx requires that you have installed at least one game locally through the Steam client.

I installed a few more games through steam and still no luck. The steam games are in C:/user/documents/steam/steamapps/common

Hi, can you post new copies of your Gameex.ini and log.txt files please? Thanks!

Am I missing steps to enable this feature? I thought that if you had steam installed with games they would just appear.

That's pretty much how it should work, but occasionally Steam has updated their client in such a way that changes the way in which the Steam games list is parsed. That's very rare though.

For comparison's sake would you mind posting up a list of the Steam games you have installed on your GameEx machine? It might be helpful to see if there are certain specific games which are not being detected properly. Thanks man!

Can you also have a look and see if you are able to create a steamdata.ini file in GameEx>Config? If one already exists there, delete it first. Just to rule out any file permission issues.

I can confirm i'm having the same problem. I think this is happening only on new installs. I very recently did a system wipe and i'm slowly reconfiguring everything. I enable steam and i get nothing - the menu is not selectable. I have 3 games installed at the moment and none are showing (hence the non-selectable menu). I would like to point out that there was a major client update a few days ago! And i'm using latest GameEx v13.25. I wouldn't be surprised if they (Valve) changed something yet again. :huh:

PS: My Steam list was fine before OS wipe, with same GE version (13.25)

According to this post, there was likely a change to the web API IP address that occured around May 1st. Wonder if this might be causing this error? Additional info for the IP address can be found here.

I use the URL instead of the IP in a side project and I have no issues parsing the XML. But I suppose Tom might be addressing the API by IP address... Not for sure though.

Both of your posts are pointing to my suspicions - the Steam Client update altered things. Adultery, maybe you should alert Tom to this if your method is more effective :)

That's the thing about it... I'm sure he knows what to do already. I'm not sure why he would do it that way if he were... I just always use the URL. Last.FM has channged the API IP on more than one occasion, so I just started using URLs instead. ;)

I'm sure Drac will let him know there's an issue though. :)

Yep! Done. DNS is almost always the way to go unless there is a change to the URL.

Of course if you think about it logically, a URL is essentially more stable - rarely does a URL change, especially in a centralized system like Steam. But many other factors can. :wacko:

Can the Steam Web API can do the job here? GameEx needs to know what games are installed locally on the client machine running GameEx. You could have 3 different machines running Steam all with different games installed from your Steam library. In the past GameEx has used local Steam files to determine what games are installed locally (or at least it used to employ \Steam\config\config.vdf for this purpose). I don't know too much about the Steam web API though. Is it possible to return a list of games installed on a specific Steam client machine?

Being the non-codey here i'm getting the following:

I use the URL instead of the IP

Can the Steam Web API do the job here? Is it possible to return a list of games installed on a specific Steam client machine?

All seems significant and relevant to me.

I've been playing with the API to get achievements more or less, or was playing with Game Info integration. I've been following the guidelines here to do that. I don't know how Tom works his magic... I get the app ID from the plugin system when a Steam game is launched. Whether or not that's useful or even usable for Tom is more of a question for him. :)

We're getting way off topic here, sorry to hijack your thread. O:-)

Tom has been notified and will address this, I'm sure. :)
