Question Regarding Save/Load States in M.E.S.S.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to GameEx. I just switched over from HyperSpin and I am completely in love with this front end. It only took me 1 minute of using the unregistered version to learn that I must buy a registered copy. Anyway, here is my question:

In all of my emulators, I have Xpadder enabled so I can map save/load state keys to my XBOX 360 controller. I am having an issue with M.E.S.S. Xpadder opens with M.E.S.S. but it's not working. I can see on another monitor that xpadder is registering my button presses but it is not registering in M.E.S.S. So no big deal then, I'll just change the UI Config in M.E.S.S. Well here is really where my question is.....I can map save and load states to my joystick, but when I press them, it wants me to pick a slot (1-9 or something like that) and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to map save/load slot numbers to the controller. All I really need is one. I went through all of the different key mappings in the TAB menu in M.E.S.S. and cannot find anything else.

So, can anyone help a brother out and either let me know what I am doing wrong, or give me an alternate way of saving/loading a game without me having to get my lazy butt off of the couch to press a keyboard button?

Thanks

For Xpadder, do you have MESS set up to force Direct Input? You would have had to make that change when you compiled MESS (if hi compiled it).

Not sure about save states, someone else will have to take that one.
