Hi.

Does anyone know if any of the Gameex compatible C64 emulators can save a game state INCLUDING the button mapping?

For example, a game may require F7 to start it. I can map a button to F7, but I only need this button mapped for a particular game. Other games may require 1 or Enter or J (for Joystick) to start. Is there a way to save each of the games with their own unique control mapping?

It's easy to do for Spectrum using Spectaculator, but C64 emulators don't seem quite so user friendly.

i think you can do this with Gamebase 64. if you right click on a game and choose GEMUS "key=value" pairs, you can edit how the c64 emu should handle the game. you should be well experienced with the command line parameters, but it will be pain to do this individually.

worth a try, in my eyes

Hi steveb,

Unfortunately the nature of the early micro systems didn't have a uniform control scheme, and therefore the emulators don't either, it will differ between games. I've not used Spectaculator myself as i had a C64 ^_^ But it may be one of them emu's that goes above and beyond the rest.

You could try Adultery's Xpadder plugin and see if it fits your needs, but in all honesty trying to configure controls for thousands of C64 games is inpractical, and probably not achievable. Currently it's almost insane to consider having a C64 collection entirely cab/gamepad friendly sorry :( Otherwise i would just use whichever emu you find works best for you and use the save states that particular emulator provides for saving and loading.

I have to agree with Dazzle. There is not much uniformity and could really sour the experience if trying to do this in a cab setting especially. Using Xpadder along with the plugin is the best bet as you can setup profiles on a per game basis, but be prepared to put a lot of time in to get it right.

Gamebase is probably the best means of managing a collection of some of the best micro systems and GameEx has built-in support for it.
