Hi guys

Need help with WindowsXP and GameEx please.

I'm using the Start menu -> Startup to load GameEx on WindowsXP. The program (GameEX) runs, but in the background (i.e. blank screen with sound playing etc.). Not having (or wanting) a keyboard/mouse on my cab, I can't trigger the program to run (well not without Alt Ctrl Del and selecting it from the Task Manager). It there any way, in Windows or GameEx where I can set the priority of the program to open in front of everything else. Or is there an alternative program to use in XP to open program full screen?

Help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm ... you really shouldn't need any sort of utility program to accomplish this, and GameEx should take focus and topmost Z-Index when loaded. When you have the opportunity would you mind posting your GameEx.ini and your GameEx log after having experienced the focus issue. You can refer to the How to Ask For Help thread for details on how to access that information. Hopefully taking a look at those files will give us a better perspective on what's happening here.

A couple of questions in the meantime. Are you running GameEx in a shelled environment? If GameEx isn't taking focus is there another program that seems to be stealing focus?

nullPoineter, thanks for your reply. My apologies for only replaying so late (work etc....). As for your question, I'm not using "DOS" shell (not as far as I know), but I'll double check the shortcut settings. Okay, one thing, sometimes the bootup is perfect, but some other times its not. (which boggles my mind). My question to you is... SHOULD I be running it in shell or just under default windows shortcut? In the meantime I'll be getting back to you on shelling question if problem not resolved, otherwhise I'll confirm resolution.

Thanks

I am having the same problem on my cab (Win 7 64bit). See here:http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12777-gameex-on-startup-looses-focus-bug/

There was a suggestion to try the "disable desktop composition" option in the shortcut's compatibility settings, however that did not work for me. It just got put on the back burner with other projects and work.

Tom said he did a lot of work on focus related issues in update 13.11. I didn't noticed the startup issue before that, but I had just moved a new rig into the cab and it was more likely a hardware/software ghost caused by my rig than an update bug. I'm interested to see if we can track down the culprit.
