After I play a few games in Mame, GameEx suddenly crashes. It was working fine before the update today. I tried the following:

1. Updated DirectX
2. Updated Videocard Drivers
3. Manually installed the update

Still randomly crashing since the update. Please help!

Attached is the log file and my config file

Also, I updated my codecs just to be sure.

I also noticed that my steam games don't show up anymore after the update.

In addition, when I first go to Favorites, the screen flashes black and stutters. Then, it appears to work fine, but it won't sort by category or manufacturer. Eventually, going back and forth between menus will cause the crash.

This is very frustrating! I was looking forward to relaxing with some arcade games this weekend...

Some things you may need to try yet.

- Delete your cache files from the gameex\data directory (delete all files with the word cache or starting with EMU_). These will rebuild themselves.

- Use a different theme (Tempest was typing at the same time). For testing purposes, the Default-Default theme is generally best

Also, I don't know if this has a play in it or not, but I noitced in the log.txt that you have C:\Documents and Settings\Rich\Desktop\ for quite a few of your image and other paths. This particular path in your OS tends to be treated with a higher level of protection and is limited to that user. You may want to reconsider this and set your folders/paths to another location.

Try a different Theme?

It behaves the same with the default theme and various other ones.

The thing is, I've had it running with the same theme/settings for years with no trouble. Now with the new update it crashes constantly.

I deleted the cache files, but it is still crashing whenever I choose Steam, or after I play a few games in mame.

I tested all of my emulators and Steam outside of GameEx and they are all working fine.

Oops missed that one :P .... I always keep past versions just in case you have to revert back for whatever reason. That way you can re-install the last version that worked. Just FYI thou I know that doesn't help you at the moment.

What codecs are you using? I had alot of issues with Shark's even thou alot of others here use that one without probs. I use K-lite as it works the best on my system and solved alot of my issues with GameEx and my system I found.

I hate to suggest this but try running GameEx without these wonky resolution settings: 1184x676

Just for the sake of argument try setting your GameEx resolution to 1024x768 and see if it works.

I changed the resolution, and it still crashed in the same places. I use that resolution because I have a weird 1080i CRT TV hooked up to the computer with component cables. 1184x676 is actually the native resolution.

I uninstalled Shark's and installed the k-lite, but it's still crashing in the same spots.

Hi,

I am sorry you are having toubles. I don't think this error is necessarily to do with the latest update in particular judging by the error. It looks lik GameEx is crashing trying to reinitialize the display. This can happen when other emulators are still open etc. Did anything else change? Did you update your version of MAME? You also said other things are not working so that could indicate another issue. This version of GameEx may be a littler faster than previous version so that can have a knock affect. Ive tested here and I don't see GameEx crashing after running a few games. Did you just do a .1 upgrade or was it from a much earlier version?

It was only a .1 update. I haven't changed mame or any of my other emulators. Everything was working well with no crashes until this update. It's weird because, for example, when I go to my favorites the screen flashes black and then stutters before loading. I'll play a couple games in mame, and the crash occurs while I am in the game list, not while playing. In addition, Gameex completely crashes as soon as I select Steam. I only have Geometry Wars, and it has worked flawlessly in earlier versions. None of my emulators are crashing independent of Gameex.

I must have played on my machine for hours last weekend and the machine didn't crash once. After I updated yesterday morning, it has been crashing nonstop. It's like Gameex is having trouble refreshing the display or something.

Thanks for the reply, I really love this frontend, and hope to have it restored soon! I can't imagine using anything else.

The Steam and favorites issue in fixed in 13.07 available in about 10. It may fix the other issues too.

Ok, I'll update and post the results.

The new update fixed the crashes! Steam is working as it should, and Favorites is no longer stuttering or crashing.

I did notice some weird behavior in the multimedia section. When I choose and watch a video, afterwards all of my mame video snaps no longer show (they do for other emulators). Also, when I go to the Jukebox, and load my albums, when I back out (with no music playing), arcade ambiance stops playing completely. When I exit Gameex and restart it everything goes back to normal though.

Ambiance and videos are now working. Thanks!
