The log is not being too helpful but let me post it as it may for someone else.

Huh ... apparently it's just not a good day for running MAME (there's a similar issue from today going on over here). Any hoo, in matters like this the best advice I can give initially is to request that you post your full log along with a copy of your GameEx config. Here's a tutorial on how to access that information. Also please provide a description of your issue, so that we have some confirmation for any guesses we might make based on your log output.

In addition I would also advise you to try the steps I listed in the other thread (re-stated here for your convenience): Please pay special attention to step B. Troubleshooting with "Run Last Game" as it will likely provide some good insight as to what's happening here.

Thanks jrock!

4. "Run Last Game",or "RunitGame.bat"

It is important that the last emulator run in GameEx is the one that you are having problems with!

A. Post your "Run Last Game" or "Runitgame.bat"

Every once in awhile, someone will ask to post the contents of "Runitgame.bat" RunitGame.bat, Is the batch file that GameEx uses to start the emulator, it will show the actual command lines that GameEx is using to start the emulator. To view it, Go to: Start Menu > Program Files > GameEx > Utilities> Run Last Game, and Right click on the icon, and choose "Edit". If Windows wants to know what program to use to open the file, Choose "Select a Program From a List of Installed Programs" Choose "Notepad" from the list. (You may want to make sure that "Use This Program Everytime" is checked.)

Copy and paste the text from Notepad into your next post, by using the keys:

Ctrl + "A" (select all)

Ctrl + "C" (copy)

Ctrl + "V" (paste)

B. Troubleshooting with "Run Last Game"

Follow the instuctions above to open "runitgame.bat" It will look something like this, however, the contents will vary depending on the last emulator that was run in GameEx.

@ECHO OFF

C:

CD "C:\Program Files\Mame0127"

mame.exe 005 -rompath "D:\Mame 0.128 roms"

One way to troubleshoot a problem is to add the word "Pause" at the end of the Runitgame.bat file. When Windows asks "Do you want to save the changes..." Click on "Save". Next, double click on the "Run Last Game" Icon in the Start Menu. This will send the commands again, but the command window will remain open. It may show an error that will help you to understand what is wrong.

If you get this error:

'Emulator name.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

It means that either you have the incorrect name specified for your Emulator.exe, or your working path is incorrect.

If it gives an error that you don't understand, please let us know that you tried this method, and let us know what the error is.

If I might add, please use full editor mode and attach your log.txt and gameex.ini files. Inserting them as BBC Code and, even spoilers, can be quite demanding to view, especially when some of our members and staff may be attempting to view the posts via "smart" devices. Thank you.

I think I know the problem. I am still learning about how mame really works and I believe my problem is not having the proper sets for the roms to work.

Not sure I am following your response correctly. Care to give a little more detail?

I believe the reason the roms could be trying to load and going back to the gameex menu is due to not having a complete set or possibly other files. So I am thinking that just a single rom is good enough if the rom is part of a set. So I am thinking you can close this issue because the issue is not in gameex but with missing the required files for the rom.

Do you agree with this?

That is entirely up to you what you have or do not have in your sets. Some have to have every ROM in every variation, country, hack, etc. Others prefer to keep it simple. I haven't paid as close attention to my own setup as I would like, but likely will prune a considerable number from my collection because it becomes overwhelming.

Yeah you always need the parent ROM for them to run if that's what you're getting at. Like sfiiib requires the sfiii rom also. :)

Also, just a friendly reminder, Please do not talk about how you obtained your roms.

Understood, about the above comment.

That is what I wanted to try to do but that is not as easy because knowing what is required for just a single rom has not been an easy task.

You are correct and the requirements of what needs to be in a set for each ROM is different. Having a good ROM manager program, such as ROMLister or ClrMAMEPro, is a must for ensuring your sets are current and align with your MAME version.
