[RESOLVED] GameEx opens full screen on second monitor only

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I downloaded the full install version so I could enable the XBMC plugin. Since doing so, GameEx 12.86 opens full screen on second monitor only. This occurs when running XBMC or GameEx standalone. I can change GameEx to windowed mode and drag it to my primary monitor, but when I click the full screen toggle, it reverts back to the second monitor.

Another post update side-effect is that it will sometimes kill my Win 7 task bar until I close GameEx, then it returns. I am not running HideOs.

I have attached my log and ini files. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!

EDIT: I tried reverting back to 12.85 but this did not resolve the issue. Another oddity to note is that in windowed mode, I can only display GameEx on the first monitor. If I attempt to drag the window to the second monitor, it snaps back to the first.

I restored to 12.86 and I am attaching a new log file that was generated after I received a .net error while in attract mode.

A couple of things I notice (although if I've thought of it, I'm pretty sure it's occurred to you as well :)). It looks like a DirectX error in your most recent log. Have you double checked your video drivers and DirectX version? Just the other night I had to update my Nvidia drivers, so it might be worth a look.

Also does the same error occur when you're using different themes?

DirectX is current. I did update my nVidia drivers but still the same results. It is happening with my Blue Neon LCD theme but nothing has changed there and had been working properly previously, so don't think that is the culprit. I will test again using the Default-Default theme but likely will report back with the same issue occurring.

As far as I know nothing has changed in any recent releases that changes any of that functionality. Has anything else changed on your system? What is the setting for run on secondary set at? I don't think dragging to the second monitor is supported so that may be normal.

Dragging between monitors did work prior. The only recent software I am aware of was downloading/installing 12.86 and enabling the XBMC plugin. I then loaded and enabled it within XBMC and GameEx loaded on the second monitor (instead of in the primary/first monitor over XBMC). It was after that that the behavior had changed.

Thanks! I will attempt tonight after I am home from work. I am thinking that there may have been something that has changed a regkey some where in my system and, as we discussed offline, should not be anything relative to the latest update. So, I am hoping it is a GameEx issue because, if not, then I have more difficult time ahead trying to figure out what has changed.

I tried with the 12.84 version and same results, updated to 12.87 and same. I tried using DisplayFusion which allows for forcing of applications to a specific monitor and my system would not allow for that to happen and repeating the same results.

At this point, I am stumped. I can say with certainty that it is not a GameEx-caused issue. I will likely try this weekend to play with the nVidia drivers to see if that will help. I am not confident that it will, however, as it is only GameEx that is affected.

OK - Marking this puppy as [RESOLVED]! A close look at the gameex.ini and, how I missed this is beyond me because it was staring at me like a zit in the middle of someone's forehead" DisplayOnSecondary=True

I changed this setting to DisplayOnSecondary=False and saved and this fixed my problem. GameEx was not being buggy - it was doing what it was being told to do all along.

d'Oh!

To be honest, I may have been experimenting when 8trek had posted previously about difficulties with pusing GameEx to his second monitor and simply forgot to go back and change my settings. Wanna split the guilt 50-50? B)

And THAT, America, is how you reach across the table (or pond in this instance) to work together, compromise, and come up with a viable solution!
