[RESOLVED] GameEx "banner" at bottom of screen?

I'm at a bit of a loss - I can't figure out what to call this feature - it's kind of a banner across the bottom of the screen that has the game name and information - it obscures the bottom of the screen in SOME (but not all) MAME games. This seems like something that would be controlled from/by GameEx rather than from MAME. I've tried all the keyboard/joystick commands I could find on the GameEx docs, but none of em turned it off/on. Since I'm not sure what it's called, it's really hard to search... I've run thru the GameEx config wizard a number of times to see if I could find a setting for it with no luck.

Attract / Screensaver >> Show MAME bezel >> No

Show Bezel for Mame games. When on MAME will show a nice Bezel detailing the game and showing marquee and icon images at the bottom of the screen.

I have set both places (the one you mentioned, and one under Advanced MAME settings) to not show the bezel, but it continues to appear - it only does so on certain games. Is there an .ini file or something that I could look at to see if the setup wizard is making the correct config entry? Is there keyboard command that I could use in-game to toggle it?

Thanks!

This is just a guess but could it have something to do with the theme you are using? The experts will be able to tell you more, but I sometimes add different commands to my theme ini's to enable and disable things instead of going through the setup. Maybe this is why it still shows after you have disabled it in the advance mame settings.

Open your current theme.ini and look for

EnableBezelAttract=True

change this to

EnableBezelAttract=False

I'm not 100% but I think this is whats causing it. If there isnt a 'EnableBezelAttract=True' in the theme.ini then I don't know.

This has me scratching my head as I have looked at all that I know in the display and Advanced MAME settings and there is nothing that should be causing this. Doesn't mean there isn't, just that I am not seeing it. I am not able to replicate the issue. It is not a theme error, so something else is causing it. When you load the Plugin Manager, do you have any plugins enabled?

Is this happening during play or during screen saver?

A screenshot would be good... I have no idea what you're even talking about TBPH.

I'm asking if this is occurring during game play (when playing games) or during the standard feature of attract mode.

Thank you for the information. And thanks for a screenshot even though you had already posted. By chance do you have a mame.ini file in your mame directory?

That is absolutely the Attract Mode bezel. 100% sure on that.

EnableBezelAttract=True in GameEx.ini

Are you launching the game in Attract Mode? Because that shouldn't even come up on a MAME game unless you have you artwork folder for MAME pointed at GameEx's artwork folder (GameEx keeps it's own artwork with these bezels in it), maybe your Artwork dir in MAME got the files overwritten? Something is not adding up here.

@Freq: Sorry my earlier comment was for the OP, not you. I knew exactly what you meant. ;)

LOL. I was gonna IM and explain. LOL. :P

The reason they show is because those game files are pointing to the artworkgameex folder according to their ini so they are showing by default during game play.

If deleting all files in artworkgameex folder doesn't work then next step would be to delete all the game.ini files so that they default to not show those images.

Great Success! Deleting the \atrworkgamex folder from the MAME folder has cleared it up.

Thanks very much for your help.

Great! Glad you got it sorted out. Sorry it took awhile to figure out. I've been busy and haven't had time to check this thread. Can now be marked as [RESOLVED].
