I have a crazy question. When I left for work my cabinet was on and working fine. When I came home I noticed that the theme was switched to the default theme and my arcade controls were no longer working as they had been. I was able to switch back to the theme I had been using from the theme picker using my mouse. I then noticed that all of my roms and emulators and jukebox are no longer showing up within the GameEx menu. So I went to the old GameEx configuration menu and realized that all of my settings for MAME, GameEx and all of my emulators was no longer showing up. They weren't even reset to default. They just showed up as unselected menu options for the entire gameex configuration. So then I tried to go to the GameEx Setup wizard and it says that "an error has occurred could not find" a particular file. It's hard to read because the text is very small on the TV that I use for my arcade monitor. I will hook the PC back up to a monitor soon to find out what the exact file that's missing could be. But my question is what could possibly have caused this to happen? Other than the small chance that my wife messed with the arcade while I was at work I can't think of anything that could have caused this. I know how to reprogram all of my GameEx settings (a task I am seriously dreading having to repeat) but I need to figure out how to prevent this from happening again before I go through all the trouble of setting it back up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will post the full error message soon but was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar and might have an idea.

Have you checked your GameEx.ini file in GameEx\CONFIG folder? Maybe it got reset. It's a very rare case, but once it happened to me. I found my config file completely blank. Everything was gone.

This file contains your personal configuration. Did you do a backup of this file, didn't you? :)

Even though your config file isn't the case, I strongly suggest to make a backup of that file.

In case you find your config file untouched and "alive", post it here amongst your log file, following these instructions.

Was an upgrade perhaps performed that maybe reset the settings? May want to check out the GameEx.UpgradeBackup.ini file found in the CONFIG directory of your GameEx setup. See if maybe your settings are there and then can simply rename the file to GameEx.ini to restore your settings.

Oops! I forgot that GameEx makes a copy of the configuration file before upgrading. And indeed, when it happened to me, it was just after an upgrade.

Sorry for having suggested a looong way to restore your settings. Follow fRequEnCy's instructions (I mean those above my post), and I'm almost sure you can restore GameEx the way it was. In my case GameEx.UpgradeBackup.ini remained intact.

Can you point to Adultery's instructions to the OP that you're speaking of?

Double oops! Today is not my day. Excuse me fReq, I had a slip. I was pointing the OP to your instructions. Maybe the work for my degree is goin' to make me mentally confused...

I wanted make sure the OP followed your instructions, explicitly telling that it is the simplest thing to check before proceeding.

My apologies to you and Adultery for my slip.

Renamed the backup file like you guys suggested and it's back in action. It must have been an update that somehow messed up my config. Definitely appreciate the help. I probably would have reprogrammed my entire configuration without checking for a backup config file. Always impressed by the gameex community.
